I received this email, and am a little skeptical. I left the Senators name out. Has anyone else received an email like this?

Greetings,

I am Senator ---- the senate committee chairman on employment, labor and Productivity with the upper legislative council in my country, please I am interested in purchasing a good living home for my family as we are making plans to relocate to your country due to political threats and also establish good estate investments in your country where my research shows there are growing business opportunity, please let me know if you can do this for me.

Actually, I really want to invest in real estate business in your country which I will need your assistant as an expert in the field. The reason why I want to relocate my family to your country is due to some political treat we are facing down here. We would need a good home with at least four bedrooms or more, with good surroundings, car park if possible with a swimming pool. The home will not be at least more than 10 years old.

We need a house that will not cost more than $1,500,000.00 one million five hundred thousand us dollars. I don’t have any specific area in mind. What we need is a very good conducive area in Illinois that is why I contacted you.

My family would like to see the pictures of the available homes in order for them to make a choice. I am expecting to hear from you as soon as possible. I will email to you on how I intend to finance the purchase.

The objective of this letter is to inform you that I want to relocate my family over to the united states through you as a realtor who will represent my interest while I am still in government and for the safety of my family which is currently facing serious political threats., and help me with more business ideas on how to invest the rest of my money which I made through my committee in the senate.

If you wish to assist me in this endeavor,it is very importnat for you to note that you would equally assist me to recieve the total amount in your custody through the security company where it is deposited in london while some parts of the funds would be used for the home purchase and the balance would be invested into the US markets through your professional expertise and advise.I would email you on further correspondences on how will conclude this through my lawyer who secures all the legal documents without any party been at risk whatsoever.I am a serving senator and you can verify about me before dealing with me

Regards,

This is a variation on what is called the "Nigerian" scam.

Soon or later, your buyer will have a problem getting his money to this country, and will want you to help by letting them wire funds to your bank account.  Of course, they will  need your bank account number to do so.  And then......  the money goes the wrong way!

Heather, these scams are running all of the time.

Nigeria is also the largest recipient of fraudulant Social Security scams, according to the GAO.

I do not recall the number but it is in the millions.

Read this through again slowly and decide if you think that a real Senator wrote something like this ?

Would a client put this wording in the initial contact with you, I think not. The fact that they mention millions of dollars they made in the senate of "Nigeria" and are, I'm sure neighbors with the King who died and left all his money to his only son that needs to get it out of the country is a big red flag.

Personally I read these for the humor and wonder to myself if anyone really does answer these things, Then I delete and block the senders just like your are going to do now.

MEL MARTINEZ WORK ART INC

22 Garden Close, Stamford,

Lances, PE9 2YP, London

United Kingdom.

Tel: 44-704-5716871

My name is Mel Martinez and I am an artist. I live in England, with my two kids, four cats, one dog and the love of my life (Married for 10years). It is definitely a full house. I have been doing artwork since I was a kid (18 yrs old). That gives me about 30 years of experience. I majored in art in high school and took a few college art courses.

Most of my work is done in either pencil or airbrush mixed with color pencils. I have recently added designing and creating artwork on the computer. I have been selling my art works for the last 6 years and have had my work featured on trading cards, prints and in magazines. I have sold in galleries and also to private collectors from all around the world. I am always facing serious difficulties when it comes to selling my art works to United state of America and Canada, they are always offering to pay with check which is difficult for me to cash here in London because it will take approximately 30days to clear which will tie down my money. I am looking for a representative in the United state of state and Canada who will be working for me as a part-time worker and I will be willing to pay 10% for every transaction, which wouldn't affect your present day to day of work, someone who would help me receive payments from my customers in the Canada and united state. I mean someone that is responsible and reliable, because the cost of coming to the above country and getting payments is very expensive, I am working on setting up a branch in the Vancouver/San Diego so for now i need a representative who will be handling the payment aspect.

These payments are in check or bank transfer and they would come to you in your name, so all you need do is cash and deduct your percentage and wire the rest back. The only problem I have is trust but I have my way of getting anyone that gets away with our money, it wouldn't cost you any amount to get this transaction done, you are to receive payments which will be sent to you by business partners. Then you are to cash it and send the cash to me via money gram money transfer; all transfer fees should be deducted from the money. If you are interested, please get back to me ASAP to know if you are interested because Job commences the moment I open a file for you on your name and info. I believe this will be a good opportunity to make good earning. Note send your reply at  melmartinez.artworkinc (at sign) live.com

Regards

Mel Martinez

Gary that is a new twist.  There was an email address to forward these too.  I will post it, if I can find it.  In the mean time you could always forward them to each other... just kidding.  Delete and block!
