Reliberation must stay professional to succeed!

By: Randy Bollig

I do not like chat rooms and discussion boards. So many times they start out as an avenue for like minded professionals to share ideas about theor particular profession. Then the radicals come in with social, political, and sexual agendas. After 33 years in this business I have learned one lesson for sure....Integrity is never out of season. If we have a moderator for this site may I please request a very high bar for editoral comment. None of us are served by learning the personal agendas of each Realtor who posts. Unfortunately, some people who have malice in their heart are always searching for a portal to reach vulnerable people.

May I suggest:

No pictures that you would not put on your business card.

Do not discuss tell us about your sexual desires...we do not want to know.

Share with me useful information on how I can serve my clients better, retain a good image, and maybe make a little money. Please maintain standards on this site or it will fall into MTV status.

Randy, I appreciate your comments and welcome you to the posting section of Relib. I think you make a valid point that this blog should be focused on things that assist and promote our career endeavors.

However, the only issue I would have is that it doesn't always have to be all business. If the tone of the site moves from the business than you are right, someone should step in and enforce change.

There are periods that the subject gets off topic and we may talk about puppies or shields or cookies but that is what this community is. Sometimes after a stressful period, we get of topic. We move back and for the most part I think we are on topic more than off.

There are many serious topics covered on this site and some that probably would meet the test for insanity. However, with the diverse set of personalities, stopping a misguided deviation is impossible. We have talked politics, alternative life styles, and many subjects that don't directly have anything to do with Real Estate. I think that is good since it broadens ones self knowledge. If it becomes the sole subject matter, than you are right.

Please stay with us and understand that we are just like you and want the best communication possible to enhance our careers. If we deviate on occasion, it doesn't mean that we have lost focus, it just means we need a break. Your post is a wake up call that we need to get back to the orders of the day. ( an old military term)

Thank you.

Randy, keep posting and commenting and keep us in line.  :)

Seriously, I will welcome it. I love the fun but I am also well aware that the public is able to glean a perception of us and our profession via these little blurbs.

Shee! I punched in my name on Yahoo and nothing noteworthy comes up beyond the usual. But when I switched to Google, there's an entry from ADRE that shows my license as expired (it isn't, just switched to my LLC when it was done) . . . how's that for misleading!

AND several Relib blurbs where comments I did not make look like I made them (till you clickthru and read the thread)

So Randy's point was not lost on me . . .

as off topic as we may get sometimes, we still seem to know how to get back on track. For many of us Relib is a place to learn but also to relax and vent and if that means we'll go from real estate to dogs to cooking to whatever else and back to real estate that to me means we still know how to stay on topic when the time comes. Oftentimes we change the subject right on the spot simply to do just that ... to change the subject ... because we may feel that the situation calls for it and we'd rather do that than offend anyone or get into overheated discussions.

I don't think the variety of topics is problematic; rather, it shows we are real, relatable people with dogs, baking cookies and spending days off by the pool or celebrating life.

Anything really off color, malicious or unprofessional we could probably do without . . . LOL

ROFL, Bill . . . but not on a commercial RE business card. Trust me on this.

Did I tell you my husband is Scottish? And married to a full blooded Italian. It's a wonder we're both still alive.  :)

Randy, I think we all agree that sometimes it gets out of control. We do need a good laugh in this business that is for sure. This is a great outlet for getting information and also sharing. I appreciate your input and would like to hear more from you. It is amazing the varied experiences that are here. New agents, older agents, Brokers, etc. I welcome the friendly banter and know that we are among professionals even though we cut up once in a while.

And I know you can't take me seriously as long as Bill the Cat is still showing. Just another side of me.

This is a great group.

I agree but I also respectfully disagree in the nicest way.  I first started commenting and posting a few weeks ago.  Everyone has been super welcoming and I have actually found this as a nice place t come and relax.  If I want to discuss something other then just the biz then I think if it is related then we are ok.

Example- I would not come here to chat about how my kids threw food at me just moments ago.  I do think some of you would think the story was funny but I know this is not the place for that.

I guess if they threw food at a client then that may work.  The story would however be in good fun.  Lot of people have done really nice posts.  I saw a Happy Mothers day post and that was just sweet. I believe posts like that are welcome and needed.

We should keep it clean.  In the last month (other then Radleys shirtless affair this week, which was funny) I have not seen anything offensive.  Maybe some harmless flirting but these guys are old friends.

The picture I am using shows relibers a more personal side of me. It is not on my marketing believe me.  I don't believe in marketing with personal photos.  You want my expertise and not my glamour shot, right?

I do understand your point, respect and appreciate it.  Thanks for posting.  It's a good topic and appreciated.

The great thing about Radley is his personality. He can be irreverent and in the next breath talk about the best ideas that are to be had. We all hope to have a little Radley in us. He is serious about his job but not so serious that he doesn't know how to poke fun. He is a breath of fresh air and is a plus to this blog. Hopefully we all have a little Radley in us.

Humor and being what you are is the life blood of reality. Don't try to hide something that is good. I appreciate Radley because he has never tried to be something other than himself. I also never got a cookies so this is not a paid compliment.

I actually would love to see that sweet child throwing something. Maybe it is just me, but I like the personal touch of this blog!!

I agree Gary.  I like the personal touch as well.  I have been to blogs and they get so concerned with staying "on topic" that it becomes boring and the views tend to drop off.  Folks will go elsewhere.  there has to be a healthy mix of laughter and professionalism, just like with my clients.  They appreciate that I am human too.  I work my butt off for them, and sometimes we are as serious as mudd, but they we find a way to laugh.  That is life.

I also pick and choose which blog I read, and which one I respond to.  Sometimes I read and learn, but don't add.  Sometimes I may respond extremely seriously, and sometimes I will lighten the mood.  I hope I never offend anyone and am truly sorry if I do.

I come back here again and again, because I respect the fellow posters thoughts and advice -and find a comraderie.  Something that is human nature to seek out, in my very humble opinion.

thanks, shelly

I really like this place and everyone here.  Other than one experience on here, I think everything has been fine.  We all appreciate Radley and his humor and comments.  If people are offended that easily at jokes then I guess this place is a little too laid back for them.  I don't want to be on a blog or forum where everything is 100% serious about real estate and always on topic.  It'll get quite boring real fast.

For the most part, I appreciate everyone here and everyone's posts and comments.

We are all human, and this place just shows we are.  We all have feelings, humor and seriousness too.  I don't want to talk to a bunch of stuffed shirts when I feel like letting my hair down and crack a few jokes.

To the Stevens Team _ Chris you need to start signing your messages as Chris or whatever you go by. In addition, I need to know the baby's name. It better be a girl since I have banned all boys since I have no male grandchildren. I do babysit though but  Texas is a little too far!

I like to think that when I read and post it is just as though we are all sitting around a table or together somewhere having a conversation. When do those types of conversations remain on the same topic? Why have to start a completely new thread when an idea pops into your head as you read a post? Often times the question in the post has been answered and we move on to other 'related' topics that it reminded us of and stay in the same thread, or Radley, who is out in our kitchen, let's us know the second batch of cookies turned out better.

Hope that all made sense and can someone pass the chips?

Welcome aboard Randy.  I don't know about the rest of you, but I usually get on here when I am "off" so maybe that is why I am willing to get off track or talk about something other than RE.  Right now I should be going to bed.  Late night Marcia and I just went on a (turned out) Pre-listing appointment and didn't get home until 10:45.  Thought we were taking the listing but he has some homework to do and hopefully that does not mean interviewing other agents.  So don't want to dwell on why I walked out of that house without a signed contract and would rather think positive - he will call us back in 2 weeks when he gets the house finished.  Course he may just stay put... Life is good... keep those positive vibs!
