I am experimenting with video on my website. I sent my first video to my beloved sister for her comments. She said "You look too serious, and do not smile enough!" OK, I listened and I am trying to improve my image on video. My problem is that I am a "soft sell" personality. I need help. I can not help that I am a middle age balding Realtor. I am asking my fellow Realtors to view my website and videos. Please tell me your opinion. I will not be offended! Let me know if you would feel comfortable as a buyer or seller with my message. Maybe ugly Realtors sell more!

I am amused when I see advertising from some of the "mega agents" in my area. One agent claimed she closed 47 million in 2006! That is very impressive yet physically impossible for one agent. We all know the trick. The mega agent has 5 buyer agents, 4 listing agents and all listings and sales are recorded in the "super agent" name. It is a clever marketing technique. I guess she technically "sold" all that real estate since she is the designated broker.

I remember when I was with Re/Max and sitting at the annual awards banquet. We all applauded as the mega agent received the award for 30 million or so in sales. The grumbling at my table was evident as agents proclaimed "She rigged it since she has a large staff". Maybe it was true, maybe not.

It would be interesting if franchisees established production awards for agents that have no assistants..and do it on their own. I have known agents that do 10 million or more with no assistant. Who is the better salesman?

Most of us know from experience that the "mega" agents give poor service and are impossible to work with since they seldom return phone calls. You have to do all the work if you sell one of their listings. None of us are served by learning the personal agendas of each Realtor who posts. Unfortunately, some people who have malice in their heart are always searching for a portal to reach vulnerable people.

No pictures that you would not put on your business card.

I appreciate the response from my fellow Realtors. I would like to see a "support group" if I may call it that for the one person Realtors out there. We are inundated with solicitations to join the pack with the franchise companies. I am a Realtor with 33 years experience. I spent 9 years in the Re/Max franchise. I have no objection to their business plan. My experience was good and I had a very supportive broker/owner. Many agents do not have any option except to join a large franchise company since they do not hold a Broker license. I work in Texas where the licensing requirements for a Brokers license require many hours of college. Good policy for consumers. My position is..if you are a broker there are many advantages to going it alone and working out of your home. We have a KW office in Southlake Tx. that has 400 agents! Obviously all the agents are working from home anyway but forced to pay a monthly fee to be in the business.

Get your brokers license and move home.

Any comments? I would like to hear from some of my kindred souls out there.

I find myself in the apparent unusual situation of being a "one man" real estate operation. Over the last several years we all have seen the tremendous growth in the "team concept" of real estate brokerage. I have watched many Realtors follow the path to riches by hiring multiple assistants, promoting the "dream team" concept and moving ever upward and forward.

I would like to find out how many of us "old timers" are out there. I am referring to the Realtor who has been in the business 30 years or more. We have heard every sales pitch that will grow our business. Most of us have fallen victim at some time in our career to the latest real estate guru, promising riches, and of course a happy home life. Most of us veterans have seen the ravages of living in the "world". Many of us weary soldiers realize that success is not in this world. That being said, we all still have to make a living and grow a business.

I am looking for input from the crusty old veterans who have chosen to abandon the franchise network and work alone at home. What a novel idea! You are a Broker, you help buyers and sellers, and yet you do not pay an office fee to be with the "name" that will get you business. Are there many of you out there like me?

My 33 years in real estate has left me jaded about the benefits of being associated with the big guys. It is my belief that if you are a good salesperson and people like you, you will succeed. It does not matter if your company logo is. I would like to hear success stories from the contrarians in this business like me.
