Protection Tips For Realtors

Our Office has meetings every Monday. The last meeting we had was a bit of a worrier. My managers ex boss (Broker) had a very close encounter. In their office was employed a cleaner to obviously clean the Office. One day the cleaner called to the Brokers home and the wife answered.

Hello xxx what are you doing here?

Apparently he put a bag over her head and thru her into a van. He then called the Broker looking for money if he did not get it she would be killed. The Brokers neighbor, I don’t think saw all of what was transpiring but called the police since she found something suspicious. The Police found the van and queried the driver. The driver was asked to open the back door of the van and found her still with the bag over her head and a shower curtain next to her. SHOWER CURTAIN?

We had other stories regarding Open Houses also.

Also a Security Advisor at the meeting gave us a ton of useful information along with Pepper Spray used by the Police Force which all of us at the meeting Bought.

I would like to share with all who reads this Blog and to take it very seriuosly on How to avoid trouble!

1. Be Alert. When you feel uncomfortable in a situation, get out.

2. Dress conservatively. Avoid wearing flashy or expensive jewelry.

3. Let your office (or Family) know when, where and with whom your appointments will be and when you will return.

4. Don't hold an Open house alone. There is safety in numbers. Always carry a Cell Phone in your hand or  jacket pocket and check in with your home or office frequently.

5. Never show property alone at night.

6. Never advertise a property as vacant.

7. Don't list your home number on your business card. Use your office, pager and /or cell phone number.

8. Develope a coded distress signal with your offices and family. This will allow you to call the office or home with a seemingly harmless message that will alert others that something is wrong and that you need help.

9. You May want to let a prospect know or think that someone could be showing up at the property any time. This could discourage a crime.

10. Never meet a first time prospect at a property based only on a phone call. Meet at your office first. Introduce them to at least two other people. Ask them to show identification and state that this is company policy. Have them fill out an information form to find out as much as you can about them. Ask a lot of questions and be a GOOD listener.

11. Always take your own car when previewing properties. Ask them to follow you in theirs. Always lock your car doors when entering or leaving. Have keys in your hand when walking to and from your car.

12. Let potential Buyers explore areas of the home on their own with you following behind. Avoid going into basements or confined areas where you can become trapped. Always, Always position yourself between the prospect and the way out.

13. Trust your instincts. Report any suspicious behavior to the Police immediately.

14. Keep on file at your office, in a place accessible by others, your photograph, car model and License number, drivers License number, whom to contact in case of an emergency, and important medical information.

15. Have a plan for personal self defense and be prepared to use it.

16. Always carry a Mugger Slugger Pepper Spray Key Chain.

17. Most importantly, REMEMBER THAT NO SALE IS WORTH RISKING YOUR LIFE

The Pepper Spray again is the Spray that the Police use. It will spray up to 8'. This is not like any other Spray. Even an attacker High on Drugs will be taken down for at least 30 mins.

If anyone wants the number for this company I will email it to you. Just email me.

BE SAFE OUT THERE!!
