A back up that works.

With all the talk of backing up web sites, I ran across a great site that backs up your computer. It cost between $3-$4 a month and is stored online. I used to use tape backups but this is so much easier and updates file continually. Here is the site: http://www.carbonite.com/

If this doesn't belong here, move it. Not that I had to tell you that!

Hey Gary, Thanks for the heads up.  I'm going to give them a try.  I've been using GeekSquad but so far I'm only moderately happy with them.

Thanks Gary,  this sounds like just what I've been looking for and probably just in time as my computer has been acting very strangely lately.  Once again thanks much.

I agree with Gary, I love Carbonite! It is truly "set it and forget it".

Review I wrote back in August:

Seriously folks, get a RSS feed reader, subscribe to just a few key blogs and you'll find the information flowing in!

Which blogs? Well, maybe that should be a RELib blog post...

Jay I wish I had read that blog back in August. I have been using a tape system and it is a real pain in .... I heard about this on Laura Ingram's radio show and am really pleased with it. You get 30 days free if you use the promotion code: Laura. I would also recommend read the link Jay has to that blog site about this product. Thanks Jay.

Thanks Gary, I have been backing up to an old PC. Carbonite is seamless and automatic, well worth the minimal cost.

I'm to paranoid to back up anything online. Especially if I am not in control. I use a NAS which I back up everything too. Then I mirror the drives. I also use Norton Ghost for the laptop. Which really has nothing other than emails on it which for the most part I have started using the webmail offered by P2. I guess it all goes back from being in IT for so long.... either way backups are good :)

Lee - Carbonite leaves you in complete control of what does and does not get backed up. It's easy to select files, folders, whatever that you don't want backed up.

I knew a guy who backed up his systems religiously. Then one day his house burned down, taking his computers, AND his backups with it.

Backing up "offsite", while probably (HOPEFULLY!) never necessary, is a good idea.

I'm still using Carbonite.  Very Very happy with it.  I even bought a new computer, switched the subscription over to it and easily used the restore feature to put all my stuff on the new computer.  Nice.
