Just a thought!

When you wish for something it sometimes happens. However when you plan for something it often happens. There is a difference since one is just an idea and the other is an objective or a plan! When things are not as you planned than you rework the plan. If you only had an idea than develop a plan to turn the idea into reality.

Here is the difference:

Idea: I will have a good and profitable year in 2008!

Objective/Plan: In 2008 I will earn $???,000 by doing the following things, A:, B:, C:…..

One is a wish, the other is a plan, and which do you think reaches a greater chance of success? You have the choice and the ability to accomplish whatever you want and now is the best time to plan the success that you had in the back of your mind and talked about. Planning allows for measurement because it spells out the results of action.  When the results don’t equal the planned results it allows for change. It isn’t rocket science it is the basics. When all else fails, go back to the basics.

Perhaps if more agents and managers did this, there would be more success. Spring is a new beginning and the start of the season for my Northern friends and maybe this is the time to set your plan to writing. For if it isn’t written, it is still only a thought. When you write it down, it is a pledge to accomplish.

Is success this simple? No, nothing worthwhile is simple but it is the path that leads you to success is one that doesn’t happen by chance. So if you have the ability to take chance out of the equation, than why wouldn’t you if success is your real goal?

Just a thought that I had!

Well thought, Gary and true - especially the "When you write it down, it is a pledge to accomplish."

Here's a twist Gary.  Why do we make success so hard to achieve?  Is it because we feel or think we don't deserve it?  It's easier to brum around the cooler about our problems instead of being accountable to ourselves and our plan.  I had a discussion about this recently with about 250 Realtors and they dropped their jaws when I asked them "Why don't you want to be happy?  Why don't you want to be successful?  Why do you want to worry about how you are going to pay your bills?  Is it because you feel you don't deserve it?" Alot of them came up to me afterward and told me that they didn't have the answer and I took them by surprise.

I have a productivity coach.  At KW (and no, I don't know about the koolaid thing) they have this 36 transactions in 12 months by prospecting 3 hours every day.  My problem isn't the knowledge but how to channel my energies (Dr. Phil is correct) and be the most productive that I can.  My production is going up but I'm having to account for my time each day and emailing it in, my weekend reports, etc. and 45 minutes of coaching each week.  It's been worth it to me - but I must confess ..... I'm stuck on my mission statement still!

Great post Gary

Barb, all things in life boil down to things that are no difficult to understand they are often hard just to follow through with. We can do a lot of things in our minds but until we write them down and commit they still remain ideas.

You mention the question you posed to other agents and it is one everyone must ask themselves. If the choice is happy or sad we must choose happy. In order to be happy we must fulfill our dreams with action. Those actions are the "Plan". That plan includes how to accomplish what we project. When someone gets serious about success they will pay the price which they will spell out in the plan. No one has ever been born great, they have always made themselves great. So, albeit Keller or any other Real Estate organization, the ability is within us all. Those willing to pay the price will and can succeed in both up and down markets.

The talent that is required is within all of us and we just need to decide that we are willing to spend the effort to make it happen. The greatest thing is it is never to late to change. If things are not going well, all you have to do is change what you are doing.

For those that understand this there is no need for explanation, for those that don't, perhaps there is no explanation that will explain it.

I hope you are feeling better!
