Soup & Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

By: Anna Horton

Tonight it was canned soup and grilled cheese sandwiches all around at our house. What does everyone else do when you get home late, still have RE work to do, are hungry and too tired to think? We live too far out of town for pizza delivery and I'm sick of DiGiorno. What does the rest of the RE world do? Lean Cuisine? PB&J?

Anna-I have the best husband in the world when it comes to stuff like this. He owns his own business and we sometimes don't get home until late and he will eat cereal. I am not kidding, cereal, I love that. Sometimes you just need to fill the vacant spot and Honey Bunches of Oats is ok with both of us, add some extra nuts for crunch. Or scrambled eggs, whatever I can whip up on short notice.

Shredded chicken sandwiches - drain canned chicken *** (walmart brand is good) and a can of cr. of chicken soup. Heat it and put it on buns - it's dinner.

Tonight we grilled out hamburgers, made some of the 20 second bacon, added BBQ sauce and had "Bacon, BBQ, Cheeseburgers".

Dinty Moore Beef Stew is good too, add some 10 min. canned biscuits.

Do you have an Aldi's?  Their frozen pizzas are pretty good, I think they're the rising crust ones.

sometimes we have breakfast for dinner, usually easy and quick, eggs, toast bacon or we have some frozen chicken patties which make great sandwhiches , or soup is always quick, or some pasta.

But my favorite fast food is still pancakes. When I have to leave in a hurry for a showing. I can take them with me and eat them on the road. (NO SYRUP) I heard you all thinking it

I am going to be married for 40 years next year and my wife and I went together only 7 days prior to our marriage. They said it wouldn’t work out! She was a stay at home MOM for 20 of those years and only started working recently because she was bored in the last 15 years. I think they call it empty nest!  After the kids had moved out I said I would be the cook. I taught her everything I knew early on,  but she has never been as good but I don’t tell her that! So I guess I have turned into a house Mom in a sense. I have no problem with doing the cooking or the house work and feel that it is a joint effort to make a house a home. I also know some of the best quick dinners that there are: there are several categories, if you know you are going to be late, the timer on the stove was invented for a reason, use it. Take a pork roast and some potatoes and carrots and put them in one of those bags they sell and set the timer, they will think you worked all day.  They also sell a Turkey *** that is frozen and comes with gravy, you can also put that on auto pilot and have a thanksgiving dinner anytime, with the mashed potatoes from country crock, some corn from green giant, biscuits from Pillsbury, and cranberries.  If you need something quick but feels like a chef prepared it, try scalloped potatoes, (in the box) laced with deli ham sliced thick. 30 minutes to prepare. If you have a grill available, there are so many things that the page is not long enough. The modern appliances have given us the ability to make a great meal in a short time. It only takes a little thought and preparation.  Come-on Ladies I’m looking for a new idea!

You need to learn to cook. It is great and the rewards are even better! Boston Market = TV dinners. Martini's are best at home!

We eat out plenty, it's usually cheaper to fix dinner at home.  My team mate, Connie - is having her kitchen redone, she has been eating out for about 2 weeks straight, they're running out of restaurants to try and they're sick of it.

I just now noticed that chicken b-r-e-a-s-t and turkey b-r-e-a-s-t were censored. LOL.

Eat out - And when you are eating out - assuming service was great - leave a good tip 20% - a note on the bill saying Jane is a super fantastic Waitress AND leave YOUR business card.

Also eating at a bar - gives you opportunity to chat with other people...always prospecting.

We don't have a Boston Market here, that does sound like a good deal.  Usually if I pick up something quick for dinner, whether it's McDonalds or Chicken dinners - it runs between $15-20.  For pizza, we usually get the kind everyone likes, and that's more expensive - at least $25.  Can't go out to eat for less than about $30-40 - with tip.

There's 4 of us, a teenage daughter who always thinks she's hungrier than she is, a teenage son who is just always hungry and my husband & I.  Last time we went out, my daughter & I agreed that next time we'll split a meal....  I don't need to eat it all and she can't.

Tonights dinner is already made, it's leftover vegetable beef soup from Sunday.

Try preparing larger dinners suring sown time and seperating them into individual containers that can be thrown into the microwave.  As the mom of 5 kids, I never know when everyone is going to be home to eat, with sports practice, violin, showings, work, etc.  Plus I teach my kids to cook at as soon as they are able.

Frozen chicken nuggets and frozen french fries take about 15 minutes on 425 in the oven! It's like McD's for the kids!

My husband knows how to cook Pasta, grill burgers or hot dogs- so if I am late, he'll pick one of those. The kids and I get sick of Pasta, though! :)

We don't have a Boston Market within 40 miles. ;-(

If I have time and ingredients, I use the crockpot. I only wish I could find someone to do the shopping. That's where I seem to fall short. We're sick of the bucket of chicken___! So it's usually whatever I can find, combined with peanut butter and that martini mentioned by Lonn. Vodka marintated olives qualify as a vegetable don't they?
