Update on Porta-Potty Advertising

By: Brian Kennedy

Well, Sunday was the Gay Pride Parade in Chicago.
My hubby and I went and gave out all the premiums we had for the event.
A while back I posted a note on here that were were sponsoring three porta-potties for the event in an attempt to drum up business.

Here is a photo of me (beer belly intact) and my proud accomplishment!
The vendor limited the size of the advertising so we have to use 8.5 X 11 signs rather than the 11X17 I had printed.  Darn!

Me and the Hubby!

I'm surprised that the vendor had the ability to determine the size of your advertisements unless they were donating the honey-suckers. If you had advanced warning, you could have taped up a display stand so people could have taken a flyer with much more info on it than just your URL. Most people don't take a pencil with them to the bathroom unless they are going to be there awhile working on a crossword puzzle. You certainly had a great day, weather-wise for a parade......not too hot and no rain.

PS: If that's a beer belly, I guess I must be pregnant instead!

Well-

The vendor were donating the advertising rights so they had the final say.

We asked if we could place a info-tube in close proximity - the City saids no because it was a public street and Walgreens did not want anything hanging off their parking lot fence.

We asked if we could post a banner - the event organizers said no because the en-route advertising guidelines were so specific and advertising had to be hung with the owners permissions in advance.

We asked if we could hang listings in the interior of the johns - we were told no. (Didn't stop us from doing it of course)

The good thing is that we had a significant spike in website traffic that continues through today. We have gotten several new prospects emails regarding our listings - all of which have all come in via the website. All-in-all, I think it went well.

How about providing branded TP next year.  That will get you prime real estate in the Porta Potties.  I'm donating a slogan, "Business Stinks, butt we're here to help".

Congratulations on the resulting traffic.

Brian, my brother was there and TOLD me about your advertising there. Asked why I am not doing that!  It is really a great idea.  There's always next year I suppose!

I was suprised at the amount of traffic the website took shortly after the event ended.

We did a lot of handouts and canvassing. My partner was walking around approaching people and saying  "You look hot! .....Here, have a fan! Happy Pride!"

We got more than a few laughs and a lot of supportive comments.
