Can I have my Blog cake and eat it too, please?

Here's a question and I'm hoping some of the resident SEO experts can chime in with their viewpoints.  (I've tried researching this and I'm getting mixed results).

Is there any way of posting a piece to one blog (Blog A) and posting the same content in another (Blog B) without any adverse SEO consequences.

One idea is to truncate a portion of the original blog and include a "read more" link (to the original post) and include this in Blog B.  However, I don't know if that is still recognized as the same content.  Secondly, I don't know if that would generally be considered poor blogging etiquette, especially if Blog B is a public blogging network platform, such as RElib.

Finding the time to post articles is always a challenge for all, and oftentimes the idea of posting original content in a third party public blog, where there is much opportunity for a visitor to become distracted with other links to other blogs or websites, becomes a difficult proposition.

If there was a way of achieving this objective and advertising that mechanism, I think there would clearly be much more participation and content on this platform, for example.

Any help or feedback would be appreciated.

Thank you kindly.

Carl - Mary McKnight has a great article on duplicate content, particularly pertaining to blogs at RSSPieces here:

Geeze, Jay....  You remind me of my grandfather (rest his soul).

I remember when I was 7 years old and asked, "Grand Pa, what time is it?"....   And he spent the next 3 hours tellin' me how to build a watch! (TOTALLY joking, Jay!  Thank you for the blog address!)

I visited  Mary's blog and this is what I took away concerning duplicating text in several different sites/blogs, whatever.  I quote:

"...unless your blog or website has grown to the hundreds of thousands of pages and is duplicating each and every page, you are considered safe."

As an experiment, I have been posting duplicate content on AR and RElib.

I don't seem to pay a penalty.

I think the SE moguls are spanking syndicated canned web articles, but not the occasional original article that shows up in two places...

However, I could be wrong...

Jay,

You personify Google search engines.  Thanks!

Phil,

Thanks for the quick summary!  Reminds me of that Twainism "I would have prepared you the executive summary, but didn't have time...so here's the 40 page report"

Cathy,

If he is, I've got some major explaining to do.

Lonn,

Thanks for that.

Would you say that "canned web articles" would apply to RSS feeds as well?

Furthermore, are the SE moguls able to determine the originating post (ie are they time stamped?) and thereby spank (as it were) the replicating site?

Anyone feel free to comment on either question.

If he does, I've got some serious explaining to do.
