Cells Phones, who's got the best one

Well my old phone that I have had for the last four years has decided that it wants to retire. Can't say I blame it, it is over worked and under paid. Since I am too young to join him on the golf course full-time, I have to pick a new one and want to know if anyone has one they like and would recommend. I am leaning towards something with blue tooth, web browser, ect...but do not know if I would really use it that much?

I have the Motorolla Razr.  I think it's better for shaving.

I am not sure if it the phone quality that makes the difference as much as it is the quality of the phone service.

I have had cell phones since 1996.  I started  with At & T merely for the sheer luxury of having a cell phoneand  to make believe I was important.

When I became a Realtor in 2001, I knew I neded to either enhance my minutes program.  So I asked other users who do they swear in favor to?  I could not get the same answer.  Some would say they like this service while others would decapitate that same service.  So I listened to teh TV commercial, instead.  I got Sprint with a Samsung chatter because of the better "free minutes" package but soon to begin suffering from "drop-calls rapture".

In 2004, I switched to Verizon (they have better TV commercials).  At a rate of $200/mo to experience even worse than Sprint - "cell phone apocalypse" with an an LG phone and that SOB would not even work in my condo.

At the end of 2005, I switched to the cheapest service: Metro PCS.

I thought, if I am to endure drop calls, might as well not pay much for the service.  To my surprise, for me, it is the best service of all.  Although MPCS has certain limitations, I can talk anywhere in the US, daytime or evening as long as I want or until the battery goes dead.

Whatever you do, don't listen to TV commercials.

I always used Nokia until I switched to the one that I have now.  The last Nokia (can't remember model), I ran over it in the parking lot and continued to use it for 2 years.  Had to tape the back on it though.  Now I'm using the 6700 ppc through Alltel.  I think Audiovox makes them.  It's like carrying around a small computer with all that it can do!  I suppose it is Ok but my instincts tell me they sold me a refurbished model.  I think I might go with one of the TREOs next time or a Blackberry.

I have a very simple Nokia purchased through Cingular (now AT&T) and can't remember the last time I dropped a call.  I keep it very simple.  I don't want email on my phone, I don't text.  I make and receive calls, retrieve messages.

Cathy,

Is dropping the phone counts as a dropped call?

Wow! Four years is a good run for a real estate agent's cell phone. I can't seem to make them last more than two.

Bluetooth is a must for me. Once you pair your phone with a good quality headset you'll wonder how you ever lived without it.

'Web browsing" is a bit of a farce on a telephone. While my phone has service, it's painfully slow to "browse the web" and it rarely gets used. Email is a different story. I love being able to respond to emails while on the go. It helps me keep on top of it and provide quick responses.

I use a Palm Treo which I have been disappointed with. The quality of the phone is not as good as what I have come to expect from Blackberry's in the past. After just one year, I am looking at switching to the new Blackberry.

Any good "smart phone" running Top Producer and an email application will change the way you do business.

I have been very happy with my Cingular 8125, but I do plan to upgrade to the 8250 only because I understand it can access the internet at DSL speeds.

It has been great for MLS information and maps when out in the country.

Norm, I agree about the Bluetooth.  My ear hurt for about 2 weeks but was fine after that.  Absolutely must have -never do without again!

As for my PPC6700. I had a terrible time with accessing the internet. By the time I would get in, I would forget why I needed it.  So I demanded that they take that service off ($40 a month, thank you very much).  I was told that it was required with my phone when I bought it but I threw a big fit and they took it off.  Once we switch MLS providers and we have wi-fi MLS, I'll have to add it back but by then I'm going to have a different phone!  My service provider is Alltel (bought Cellular One) which is the only service that I have used.  They will have to pry the phone from my cold dead fingers because of the plan I have.  I hate their customer service but I just can't give up this plan ... my basic service is 75 per month and I have unlimited minutes always.  They didn't offer that plan very long.

Anyone have any preferences in phones that have internet access.  Mind you, I can't stand tiny little screens.... :)

I've had my Razr for about 2 years now. Was in the mall on Friday and noticed that they're still being sold everywhere.  That tells me that they're popular and good to still be so popular.  Everyone in my family has a Razr - including grown son & daughter-in-law.

It has blue tooth and internet capability.  Also has calendar with appt. reminders.  As with all other phones internet is toooooo slow and painfully frustrating.

I don't care for my Razr, but that's just me. It's hard to dial while driving (I know, I know....)

I want one of these:  http://www.apple.com/iphone/

I had Nextel free incoming with the Blackberry 7520 for the last two years it wasn't great for web browsing but awesome for e-mail. I have now switched to Sprint free incoming with the Moto Q it's very fast web browsing, good for e-mail. I find the keys a little less user friendly compared to the blackberry. As far as service once I went to the blackberry with Nextel I never dropped a call, the phones I had before would drop one a day. With Sprint when the weather is real hot I seem to drop calls??? I get a new phone about ever nine months because of the extra wear and tear.

2 of my past clients worked for Verizon and also said Razrs were junk. I've always had Verizon(10+ years). I have no problems with them. I love my LG and just upgraded my hubby to the new LG. (His first flip phone.) he likes it ok. He's not used to it, he has always had a Nokia and is finding the flip hard to answer when he's painting, drywalling or driving.. The Nokia quite working after it was dropped in drywall mud, then 2 weeks later a 5 gallon bucket of paint. I just don't understand why it wouldn't work after that..LOL.

I would love the iphone - I think! I think I would love to win the lottery, too. A lot of my friends have the Razr and seem quite happy with the slim design and features. Still too expensive for me. But, if one more person walks around our office with that bluetooth thing in the ear I may knock out a few of their teeth. I mean I don't know when they are talking to me or someone on the other end of the phone. O.K., I know you are cool and I'm not - just go talk on the phone already.

Alltell has been OK in CT.

Knock on wood, I've dropped my Alltell LG flip phone several times and its still working fine.

I dropped my old Motorola (not RZR) a couple times and it broke and I had to buy a new one

Jay: The iphone is going to be an ATT exclusive arrangement for now.

But they say its an expense toy and not much good for real estate.

I was thinking maybe I'd switch ti Verizon and get a PC card.

For me personal, I like the Treo. I check my email a lot and the Treo deliever it with high performance speed. Also, you can use the Treo as a modem which mean you can access MLS or other real estate mean anywhere. I also use my Treo for the inferred MLS access. I don't have to rent those bulky Metrolist key from SAR (Sacramento Ass. Of Realtor).

Good question and I've been searching for a dependable phone.  Have a Treo PDA in the car for email stuff but as far as true phones, have had a treo, multiple razors, a motorola flip, some old style Nokias.  I went back to the old school Nokias because of better phone quality, easier to use, and small.  The earbud plug is round which means you do not have to use both hands or look at it while driving.  The phone came out like 10+ years ago (might be called the 8290) but I find it works the best and found a couple of new ones in a phone store.  The only problem is the phone number memory is limited to either 250 or 500 but I think I heard that they are bringing back a new model which is very similar this summer.

The Treo is in the car for email and lockbox purposes but the small Nokia is in the pocket !!

Overrall, been happy with Nokias but lately everybody has been making the phones way to complicated.
