"I Didn't Want a Friend!"

By: Cathy Clark
Saturday, May 05, 2007 9:43

That was the first feedback I ever received on my Standard website.  OK.  Thanks for your input.  Happy Trails!

Consequently, I paid very little attention to the "About Me" page.  My Bad!  Since graduating to Professional, and having access to Ultra Stats, I've been paying particular attention to the pages visitors view most often.  Our Listings, MLS Search, Mortgage Calculator and.....Guess what?  Maybe they don't want a friend but they do want to know About Me!  I immediately updated today.  A little long as far as I'm concerned and I'll have to pare down, but at least it's About Me.  And as we all know, it is ALL About ME!

Moral of the story, pay attention.  Use the tools available to you and don't listen to that one nay-sayer.

Cathy

While we have made several 'close' friends via real estate transactions, that certainly isn't the primary goal... HOWEVER, we always tell new clients that we are going to be very involved with each other over the next few days, weeks or months and it certainly helps to feel comfortable with each other - it's a two way street and if our gut tells us that a particular relationship has 'trouble' written all over it, we'll bail quickly.  Life is too short to deliberately walk into viper pit.

Cathy, I would rather do business with people I like and to me, the transaction is a very personal, business experience. The clients should know about us and feel comfortable with their choice of agents and just as Tim and Susan said, we should feel good about investing our time and energy with them or bail. I'll bet your new "about" page is great, I'll check it out sometime soon!

It's is interesting.  You become so close in those few weeks and then once they close it is back to your next close encounter.  I still keep in touch with emails and postcards.  Ocassionally, a call to see how they are doing.

I've become good friends with several clients, we have had dinners together, gone to birthday parties and we're going to the beach for a long weekend with several couples who started as clients. It's nice to make new friends.

I agree...if we help enough other people get what they want...then we can have anything we desire(Zig Ziglar).  It is all about relationship.  They buy from us because they trust us.  We can't fake a relationship just because we want to make a sale.  Selling real estate is not just a one night stand.  Think about how many referrals we would get if we felt that way.

You know, I've gained so many friends from past "transactions".  In the last twelve months, 2 weddings, 3 baby showers and 2 christenings.  I had to miss one because I was out of town and many were asking, "Where's Cathy?"  I have one "Buyer/Friend" who's coming this week to change the oil on my lawn tractor, another who takes care of my car, and my daughter babysits for three others.  And, oh yeah, I'm moving in another month and one of my other Buyer/Friends has already lined up quite a few "Coasties" to move me for pizza and beer!

None of whom I had ever even met before they contacted me in a Professional capacity.

We do make friends if we do our job properly.  Stay in touch with your clients.....my daughter is absolutely flabbergasted that so many people want to be at the "before-prom" gathering...and it's not even her prom! But they all want to be there.  She'll have a crowd.  She's rather embarrassed but still a little flattered that so many people want to see her in the gown, etc.

I absolutely love what I do for a living.

I enjoy the making friends part of the business as well.  It's definitely a nice perk.  Then there are those that you would rather NOT be friends with..and usually aren't.

Ok Mike, bring on your Part 2 now, and when you pass me on the totem pole, bring Phil with you so we can have P2 version of "BLUE MAN GROUP". Ron, Mike, Phil all with blue shirts-that would be cool!

Or, practice leaping tall buildings in your super hero suit. lol

Those guys just creep me out!  I hear they are fantastic in person, but that color is SO intense!

(*I'm not a TV fan, but did you ever catch the parody of the BMG on "Arrested Development"?  It was, as my friend, Becky, would say, "LMAO" quality!  Someone gave me the DVDs of the TV show when I was recouping from surgery last year and I about laughed all my stitches out!!!! :)

But, I'm up for it is Ron and Mike are!  You too, Mary!  We'll need a fourth!

Blue Man Group....I actually was on stage with them in Boston have the Pic to prove it ....Was the "chosen" from the audience. I know this surprises you all.  It was the Twinkie thang.... for anyone who has seen the show....it's changed now. They do their best to keep it fresh.

If you haven't seen it....you must.  I probably won't be there, but it'll still be fun, nonetheless, and you'll still have a great time.  Go see it! It's exhilerating, and a whole host of laughs.

I would say I have met more than half of my friends thanks to real estate. Even my best friend is a former client of mine. Being Czech myself, I work a lot with the Czech community in Northern Illinois and it is very easy to become friends with people who share the same background, interests, and more.
