Yet another attempt in Bill's absence. Not really, but....
Ben and I are watching AFI's 100 Best. It's amazing! Not comments necessary or expected, just watch it if you love movies.
Cathy do you have a way of copying that list. I think it would be interesting to see what all of us come up with. I can think of several so maybe put a limit of 3?
Titanic
Gone with the Wind
Paying it forward
Jana
Phenomenon with John Travolta ... that's my addiction to the list ... the one and only movie that ever made me cry at a movie theater!
Add "Knocked Up" to the list..... It's new but the funniest movie of all time.
Shawshank Redemption
Braveheart
The Godfather
The Deer Hunter
The Big Chill
Good Will Hunting
I love movies!
Michaela -only ONE move has ever made you cry?! You must not have seen Beaches or Terms of Endearment (you're probably too young). Sophie's Choice? (that one *kills* me every time) How about The Green Mile, Saving Private Ryan, or Schindler's List? I'll freely admit, I wept like a baby in all of these (and more. What can I say, I'm a sensitive guy)
Here is the new AFI Top 100 List:

Jay, for some reason, I can cry watching movies on TV/DVD but in a theater, it just doesn't "move" me that much. ... the movies you mentioned do make me said (there are couple from your list I haven't seen though) ... I guess my tears are ment for "normal life" and happy-romantic movies. Now, show me Titanic and the LENGTH of the movie will make me cry (sorry Jana, nothing against your choice :-)
Some are less known, but movies I love:
Living in Oblivion
Kung Fu Hustle (No kidding...guys, this is a very funny movie!)
The Big Lebowski
The Zero Effect (filmed in Portland!)
Pulp Fiction (or anything by Quentin)
An Affair to Remember
Brothers McMullen
Bridge on the River Kwai
Inherit the Wind
Chinatown
Citizen Kane
Das Boot
Empire of the Sun
The Exorcist
Fargo
The Last Picture Show
Gone with the Wind (my all time Favorite) my family hates it though..
Braveheart (Mel is the sexiest man alive) IMO
The Green Mile
Legends of the Fall
Dances with Wolves
Forrest Gump
Saving Private Ryan
Gone With the Wind - my all time #1 (even if it is un-PC)
Shawshank Redemption - #2
Stand By Me (from the Stephen King short story "The Body") my #3, both of my sons' #1
Love Song for Bobby Long with the most amazing performance I've ever seen from John Travolta is tied for #3 for me.
A Prayer for Owen Meany and Pay it Forward. I'm a sucker for the sappy ones.
I don't think it will make the AFI list but sometimes you just want a movie for fun, we've got the Austin Powers trilogy packed for the beach this weekend. We want to laugh, not cry.
Howard, My 13-year old son was really disappointed that Austin Powers didn't make it, too.
If I was going to vote for that genre, I'd go for Peter Sellers and the Pink Panther movies. Every one is a classic!
French accent (paraphrasing, here): "Does your dog bite?" "No my dog does not bite." (dog bites Patron).....
"I thought you said your dog does not bite?"
"That's not......my....dog."
Hysterical!
