Ms. Manners - The Rules for Being a Guest on Relib

By: Cathy Clark
Wednesday, June 20, 2007 4:05 PM

Does P2 require any kind of registration for Guests who want to post?  If not, I believe they should.  When inviting guests into my home, I at least want to know their names and how to reach them.  And know who they are if I don't want them back.

In order to "post" a new thread, you must be at least a Professional, paying member.  You can "comment" as a Standard member or guest.  Therefore, Relib is possible because of paying members.  We invite non-paying members and guests to our "party" much like we invite guests into our homes. One of the reasons I, myself, became a paying member was so I could post here (among other things, but it was a big draw for me.) We have had quite a few wonderful comments from Standard members and Guests and I don't want to "diss" Standard members or Guests.

I don't know about you, but generally, when I invite someone into my home, I provide the food and libations.  I only expect that they will act like friends and guests.

My rules when I invite you into my home:

1.  Be kind and generous to my other guests and family members.  Whether you like them or not.  I would do the same for you.

2.  Be kind and generous to me, your Host.  I will do the same for you, whether I like you or not.

3.  Don't insult my Friends or "My Famiglia".  They were here long before you and have helped me in ways you can't even imagine.  And they will help you, too, given the opportunity.  And I will defend them against anything you have to "offer".

4.  Please refer to numbers 1, 2 & 3.  That about covers it for me.

Any other rules to contribute?

6. Leave the home the way you found it. If you see something out of place, tell me and I will choose what to do with it.

I didn't know you have to be a paying member to be able to start a new thread.

Anyway, I am not surprised to see your post, Cathy ... we've seen some rude comments from couple of the guests lately ... would be nice to know who they really are. Sometimes, we get to see some comments bordering with rudness from our regular members but at least when we know who they are, we know it comes with their personality, not to mention often times they are ment to be jokes ... but that's what makes us all be a part of this community ... and it's sad to see someone jump in from the outside and throw in a comment that can hurt people!

Some kind of registration for the guest whould certainly help!

Hi everyone! We understand the challenges with allowing anonymous comments, however we feel that there are many benefits to doing so. However we don’t want any poor manners, or even worse, abuse, to spoil a good discussion; so we have set up a special email address that you can use to report any such abuse. We will quickly remove any inappropriate comments or posts that are reported to: abuse@reliberation.com.

We’re confident that this will minimize the negative side of allowing anonymous comments, and if it doesn’t, then we will just have to reconsider allowing them at all.

I don't want to discourage posts or comments from any source, but believe we must, at least, know where they're coming from.  I don't want to discourage any comments, you just have to "own" it.

And I don't mean this as an insult (to me it would be a compliment), but I've thought this before when you've posted.....You look like Marie Osmond!  I've always thought she's drop dead gorgeous!

My 2 cents.

Marie Osmond is 1 year and 5 days older than I am. (She'll be 48 on Oct 13) I know this simply because from the ages of about 13 - 19, I was insanely in love with that woman. I couldn't admit that to my friends at the time because, well, let's just say the Osmonds were not cool. But Marie, wowsa. She was (still is) *smoking* hot! Here's an article from a couple of months ago -- complete with pic from 2005. She's getting divorced. If I were a single man.....

Is there such a thing as a "functional" family?  I have a rather large, Irish/English family (including ex-in-laws) and an even larger extended family (as we all do) that includes Italian, French, Wampanoag, Penobscot, etc.  Absolutely NONE are functional.  We're all dysfunctional, let's face it and embrace it.

This is yet another of my dysfunctional families.

That presents a question......If we're all dysfunctional...doesn't that mean that we're all....... "functional"?

And BTW, Joe (of Joe & Kerry fame) tell Kerry that she is, under no circumstances, to read this blog.  She'll be on 5 minutes after you've gone to bed.

Doing my OH tomorrow ... just hope someone will show up! At least I have some showings scheduled afterwards in the same neighborhood ... that will hopefully raise my spirits if the OH is too slow.

Radley, I'm glad I'm not the only one still not finished with the tax return! I've been making promises to my tax-lady for the last two weeks ... can't seem to get to it!

Hi Michaela,

Almost done with the tax return..... the most painful thing around.  Trying to calculate mileage and depreciation on a car I can barely find is ridiculous.  Not proud, but almost done with '05 and get to do '06 next !!!

Cathy, Kerry can barely get the computer on some times. Never mind finding this site. She is a paper girl. Although she is starting to love eFax.

Holy cow, Radley!!  I was checking out your website and OH MY GOODNESS!  Do you take your listing photos yourself or do you hire that out.  The shots are amazing!

Hey There Marcia in OK City !!! .... I have kin there but born and raised in Texas.

Take a lot of pride in the photography, actually little bit... of both some professionally "shot" and some done personally by the kid.  Some of the nicer shots are actually homegrown but gotta have the high quality lenses for interior work.  Really need some form of wide and semi-wide angle lenses to do good interior shots.  My camera is simple, a Fuji s5000 but the lenses are very expensive and the whole Adobe color balancing thing has an enormous learning curve.

A tip which I use is to capture the pictures at dusk right as the sun is going down (for interiors)... that way light coming through the windows is minimized.

Glad I'm not the only taxes-challenged person :-) ... no offense anyone!

Gene, too bad Des Plaines is a bit too far for you to join me at the open house ... it was very long and lonely two hours! At least I got one visit more than last time ... that is two groups of people total ... neither one seemed to be interested in either the house or me! ... what's happening! all these people seem to be having their own agents already these days! There were a lot of open houses in that area this afternoon ... with a lot of desperate agents trying to sell ... and no serious buyers. I don't think I've ever seen so many open houses together in such a small radius!
