Gawsh, It's Hot Here!

By: Cathy Clark
Wednesday, July 11, 2007 5:27 PM

The temp went up to 80 today.  With a humidity of 60-something!  I'm sweltering.  I actually broke a sweat when I mowed the lawn with the tractor.  Wow.  Thank goodness the seabreeze is kicking up and I just turned the fan on.  I should be OK, don't anyone worry.  I'll survive.

OH.  I am so sorry.  Am I rubbing it in?  You know I'd never do that!

can't really feel sorry for someone who has a seabreeze.

It isn't like I get cool breezes off the wheat fields.

Mid 90's and sunny, heat index near 110, pop up afternoon thunderstorms just cooled everything down a bit. I mow really early on Saturday or Sunday morning and we have a nice small lot.

I can't believe how lucky we are today.  We are usually melting.  Got some of our June gloom this week and today it looks like spring.  I know better to think this will keep up so don't rush on over.  I am just hoping we don't have anymore 120 like we did last summer.

I think we're supposed to cool off by the end of the weekend.  We normally only get a few days each year of 90+ weather, but it's usually not until August.  It's 91 now.  When I get rich and famous I'm putting in A/C.  I don't care if I only need it for 1 week of the year!

Gloria, I think the idea is to see how many times people can change the photos to thoroughly confuse everyone.  Is it working?

Wait till the weekend!!!  LOL...

I thought this might get some of you riled!  Especially those of you down south or out west.

The puppy's name was Peppy.  He was a sweetie and my best bud at the time.  We were inseparable.

Bee, you are very brave.  I would never, ever publicly display my high school pic. Arggghhh!

Thank you for your concern, Shelly.

In Cathy's defense...you have to keep in mind New England weather...changes every 5 minutes. Yesterday was 70 and foggy and scary and today was in the mid 80's and horrible humidity. It is hard changing temps that much everyday...

Come on up to my li'l ole mountain cabin! I'll fix you some sweet tea and you can "rock awhile" on my covered porch overlooking the mountains. Unless of course, 68 degrees is too hot for you!

And, I promise, no mosquitoes!!!!

Cathy, great photo. I love it! Well....we got to low 90's today. But in the hill country feels much better than the reports from San Antonio. Sometimes we are grouped together, but our nice hills and valleys create a nice breeze and wind off the lake. The lake is cool water. The Guadalupe River, they say, stays in the 50's all year long. I like it. I used to live in the humidity of Houston. This is great. But yes, I still sweat on the shows. Went to one today with no AC on.

We are having record amounts of rain in Texas this summer, which means our temperatures have not been as brutal as normal.

Yea, but the flooding, Bill.  When my oldest was a toddler, I got caught in a flash flood in Houston.  Car in water over my headlights.  Fortunately, I was only about 1/2 mile from home, so I walked through the waist deep water with the toddler on my hip and a big golf umbrella in my other hand.

I don't really miss Texas at all...especially the weather.  I do get affected by the gray winters up here, but a full spectrum lamp over my desk helps a ton and I definitely prefer summer here.  I can deal with a week in the upper 90's with 60% humidity to Houston's oppressive heat with 99% humidity. :)

Bee,

Hey gur-ull, what's wrong with Stinkadena? I went to Waltrip on the NW side of Houston in HISD. My snobby (not really) hubby went to Kinkaid and Memorial and is always razzing me for my bluecollar roots, ahhh grey roots? Whatever, but WE had an Olympic Gold Medal winner, Patrick Swaze's mom was my ballet teacher, and I was in art class with Olive Oyl (Shelly Duvalle)

While Kinkaid & Memorial, had what, a few doctors and some bankers? How fun is THAT? NOT AT ALL. Profitable but not fun.

PS we also owned a house that has now flooded 7 times. I totally understand the water issues with TX. But the people are so nice.

I agree with Karen.  She is right down the road from us in Bulverde.

We work in San Antonio and it is a bit hotter.

I miss the sea breeze when I am away from Galveston.  I will deal with the humidity any day as long as I can have my feet in the ocean.

I am a beach bum at heart.

Nothing is quite as bad as living in Vegas and PX.  You guys get my respect hands down.  Try building homes in that terror.  It's rough.

Stinkadena. Girl my husband worked there on the ambulance for years.  It does not bother him or me.  I grew up in Galveston. I have never dealt with water issues in Houston or Galveston.  Guess I have been lucky.  Sounds like you guys have some stories.  Galveston floods pretty bad.  We just deal with it and try to stay safe by not driving.

Turn around and don't drowned.  My son scream if I drive through 2 inches of water due to that saying.  Kind of gets annoying but we have had a ton of deaths lately (bill I am sure you heard about the lady in Dallas area who took her 3 sons into the water- I want speak of the outcome- it was terrible)  Bill has been getting hit.  So have we.  I am sure Keren will admit that.  The rivers here are full which is great but can be scary.  We do have green lawns.  My deer are happy and fat.  I wathc the baby fawns play in my yard everyday.

My husband could not get home the other day due to the rain.

It is however higlhly unusual.

The only place I ever been to that is worse than Houston is Guayaquil Ecuador. A large city, below sea level, on the Pacific, just below the equator and there is no wind at all, due to the below sea level thing.
