Greenspan-Sunday

By: Cathy Clark

Being that I'm from New England, I missed this interview.  Although it was on our favorite program and he was interviewed by our favorite "journalist" I still wish I had invested in that Tivo!  Here's a vignette from the interview:

Interesting.  Thoughts?

In the segment linked to below, Greenspan seems to be urging Bernanke to bail out the mortgage lending sector, in order to stabilize the economy.

Bernanke says it's not the Fed's job to bail out the lenders / investors.

Greenspan says that's not the point.  The point is that something has to be done to STABILIZE THE ECONOMY as a first priority.  Greespan also says, the investors losses will be softened, as a side effect.

OK...  Bernanke....  Get over yourself and stabilize the economy.

Could we get that done by, say, Tuesday at noon, please?  IF not, have your peeps call my peeps and let's set it up for some time on Wednesday... OK ?

I suppose Bernanke's real problem is that he does not want to do be seen as a puppet of Greenspan or as one who is tied to doing things the way his predecessor did.

Greenspan clearly, by his repeated habits when in office, favored "STABILIZING" the economy, even if some hapless industry got a bailout it did not deserve.  While this legacy may be controversial, it WORKED...

Since Bernanke wants to be his own man, it is clear that somebody has to find a way for Bernanke to make a mortgage lender bailout "his own"...

As a classy guy, Greenspan obviously understands this and is avoiding public pressure on him to do so.  (Leaving Bernanke room to claim the idea as his own).

Wow Greenspan is OLD.  No wonder our government cant make a quick decision.  To many old fogies taking to long to ponder on our problems.

I think it is time for some younger blood in the white house.

How are we supposed to be this Great Innovative Super Power with a bunch of OLD men running our country??  I wonder if they even know how to turn on a computer?  It is amazing that we are not still in the Stone Age with these guys behind the wheel.

Seriously, we need to get some younger people in the White House.  Someone with some innovative ideas.  Someone who is not stuck in the past remembering how awful it was growing up in the depression.  Someone who will not run the war in Iraq like it is WWI.

THATS IT, I AM RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT!

A little bit of trivia: Alan Greenspan was a part of Ayn Rand's circle of friends she kiddingly called "The Collective".

Ayn, had she live to see it, would have been disappointed in the direction Greenspan took.
