Relax . . . It's only Real Estate

Referrals For EVERYONE!

By: Candice A Donofrio

This note was in my Inbox. I had posted my e-mail address for a couple of the girls to contact me for astrology chat, but I digress.

I understand completely that some prefer to lurk. Sometimes I do, too. Monica, who I never met before about an hour ago, sent the following and gave me permission to post in its unedited entirety, sans her full name and contact info.

Enjoy . . .

Subject: From a P2 lurker-- Thank you!

Hello Candice!

I got your email from a post you just had on ReLib.

I'm an admin ass't to a Realtor, and he's put me in charge of most of the P2
stuff. I started reading the blogs and ReLib a few months ago and loved it!
I don't know much of anything about realty (I lick envelopes and do online
marketing, sometimes hold an open house or two), but I love learning what I
can from all you post-ers. I definitely know I don't have what it takes to
be a Realtor (its just not my thing) but I have gained a marked and
substantial respect and understanding for what you people do! I would love
to respond to some of the posts, as I feel like I've really gotten to know
some of you regulars, but refuse to do so under my boss's name. So I remain
a lurker.

When I saw your address, I figured you would be my lucky victim (not
Radley's victom!). Could you pass word onto the other Relibbers that even
the lowly admin ass'ts with no realty background get a kick outta their
posts? I do learn a lot too-- it's like informal real estate school with a
sense of humor! :o)

I plan on moving around the country every couple of years after I finish
school next spring, and now I definitely know where to look (and to send my
friends and coworkers!) to find high-quality Realtors.

If you do agree to pass my word on, thank you SO MUCH for being my
messenger! I appreciate it!

I'm not sure if my whole name shows up in the sender field with this email
address, but if it does, please only use my first name:

Thanks again!

Oh wow!  That's great to see!  She probably really got a blast out of our 4th of July Weekend free for all.  I think sometimes folks get the idea that Realtors(r) are just stuffy, snobby, know it alls.  I think it's great we can show that we let our hair down and are real people, too.  Some folks won't like it, but I'm glad Monica enjoys us and is getting an education as well.

Monica, come to Seattle.  It doesn't rain here as much as they say, we're totally PC (except at sporting events) and the summer days last from 4:30 a.m. until about 9:30 p.m.  Almost as good as Alaska!

Well how cool is that!!  Good to know people think we are just a little off the rocker and not totally crazy!

Makes you wonder how many people are out there reading this that never post, but kind of "know us" from our postings.  Kinda weird.

Yes you.  You reading this but never post or comment, I'm talking to you!  LOL....

I'm glad this place isn't so stuffy and is more relaxed.  We all aren't a bunch of stuffed shirts and know how to laugh and have fun!

Monica, it was so kind of you to send this email.  You made my day.  One word, though, never ever ever call yourself a "lowly asst."  There is no such thing!  That was how I learned this business and I benefitted greatly from doing the "grunt" work.  I also took a lot of heat from Buyers and Sellers and smoothed a lot a feathers, saved more than a few deals from implosion.  You are an "Assistant"! Capital "A".  Wear the title proudly, Monica!  Anyone who has ever been an Assistant or had an Assistant, will agree with me, I'm sure.  Sometimes it's the toughest job in the office.

Good Luck in your last year at school and stay in touch!  Maybe we'll make our Relib Convention at your graduation.  Hmmmmmmmm......where's my cauldron......

That's right, Cathy - In my previous life (BR - Before Realty) I was always in administration.  I know from experience that I ran the last company I was at.  I was the "go to" person - no brag, just fact.  I gave 90 days notice and they still hadn't found a replacement for me by the time I left.  They ended up splitting my responsiblities among 4 people.

No such thang as lowly assistant.  You get all the crap work while others get the glory.  Hang in there, sistah, your day will come and you will shine!

Welcome Monica, you can be our honorary mascot!!  And it is so appropriate that you should contact Candace.  she is a person that puts out good vibes, and the universe answers her with nice notes like this.  Keep on reading, and let us know if you need anything.  Oh yeah, you are invited to the pool party this weekend, too.

And, Monica, you can sign in as "Anon"!  Just let us know who you are and you know you'll get special treatment!  You may get hazed by Radley & Shelly, but I will defend you!  With my shield.  I may even be able to convince Becky to bring her bat, but that's a last resort.

Monica, I insist that you attend the pool party as my proxy. I'm planning to OD on milk thistle and a host of other herbal hangover neutralizers from this past week. Quid pro quo, my dear . . .

Yes Monica, you can post as an Anon in the comments and just make up whatever name you want to use, and just use the same "fake name" every time you comment and we will know who it is.

WOW. For as long as I've been reading, I never noticed this little sliver at the bottom of the screen where you can post as a guest. I think I might be making the hazing too easy for you guys. :o) Brunette too, wouldja believe it?

Also, not sure you want my cookie recipes-- I'm vegan and my experience tells me people aren't as fond of tofu cookies as I am. But I can make sushi-- would that be an agreeable trade?

Bee and Cathy-- thanks for the Assistant pep talk! Tis true, those Assistants are hardier than they look!

Actually, Seattle is on my list. But then again, so is most of the West. I guess time will tell which of your cities I end up in.

Thanks for the hearty welcome, and for pointing out that guest posting is available!

Signed,

The Mascot

What happened to my shout out to Monica?  Did I forget to hit the submit button!  Sheesh! Hi Monica, welcome!  I was a RE assistant for 9 1/2 years and had the same thoughts you do for 9 of those years.  Hey Bea I was a office administrator 3 years before that 9 1/2 I mentioned.  And the receptionist before that!  It is funny how we evolve.

Monica - Don't know where all the guys are but let me welcome you on behalf of all the hulks here. Too bad you can't post a photo or I would make you a VERY special shield for our weekend parties. As a former manager of a couple large RE offices, I sincerley appreciate the assistants and all they do to keep the agents productive as well as helping out with many other things that need attention in an office. I had several that would pitch in to cover phones when they weren't on the agents clock and others would always be ready to help out with Easter Egg Hunts, parades, etc. Don't be a stranger here!  :-)

Radley is our in-house hazer but he has recruited a couple helpers.

Monica, sounds like you are going to fit right in! it was nice to read your kind words. If Radley ever gives you a hard time around here, let me know ... he's scared of my logo  ... I'll be happy to use it to your defense :-)
