Paper Vs. Computer

By: Gloria Losie

I really use my computer for almost everything except.....I have a paper appointment book.  I write all my appointments in this book and keep this current all the time.  I have tried numerous times to break away from this but always end back with the written.  I occasionally write the appointment on my calendar on the computer but I also check my appointment book each day for my schedule.  Since I am bound to the computer it is hard for me to believe I don't rely on it for my appointments.

Am I the only one?

No, you are not alone, but I have given my paper calendar up for my Treo 650! It feels a little like my old paper calendar.

Hi Gloria

More trees have be killed since we entered the "paperless age". I know I have that document in electronic format but I still like to print it. LOL

I too like to have my Franklin planner handy at meetings etc. I use Outlook and printout my weekly calender then have to update outlook with any new entries from the planner at the end of the day. I recently purchased a PDA phone which I now sync with Outlook also. Still much easier to jot something in the planner during phone calls or meetings then trying to enter it in the PDA and have a coherent conversation at the same time.

Your so right some habits are hard to break.

Hold on, my Abacus has a dead battery.  I will get back to you in a minute.

I am a techno-crat.  But I do like the look and feel of a cluttered desk that only many reams of paper can give.  I currently have 7 contracts and three leases on my desk in various forms of negotiations or preparation and I can't seem to make them go away.

One less actually, I just got a call from a Realtor on a house that I wrote an offer on for my Mother-in-Law......There is one less in Negotiations and one more in Escrow.    Man, I could use 6 more of those calls today.

Gary, congrats on the escrow!

I can't even believe that I will admit to it ... but I don't use any appointment books AT ALL! ... And I know I should ... and I have tried it all ... my smart phone, outlook calendar, other software, paper appointment book .... and no matter how hard I try .... two days later, I just go back to ... NOTHING ... it's all in my head ... makes me wonder how I can keep up with it (never missed an appointment yet) ...plus I have all of my husbands trucking appointments in there as well ... does anyone have a piece of advice on how to go from relying on your brain and memory to something more "high-tech"?

I love my PDA it beeps at a given time prior to the appointment to remind me of the appointment. It syncs with my computer when I get home and any appointments entered there are update to my PDA in the middle of the night.

I will never go back to the paper days.

Gloria,

You are not the only one!  Eventhough I am techno-junky and do practically everything else on my PC (even my listing agreements are delivered via the internet), I cannot lose my paper appointment book.  Every year it's a new burgundy day planner LOL

Ok, forgive me a shameless plug, but I use CalendarHub online to keep my appointments and also to schedule appointments for inspections on properties in escrow. I can easily email these to my sellers/buyer so they know when what inspections are happening.

My son and his friend created this and I love it. It can be paper or on your desktop.

I use my daytimer for everything. I have a PDA but I don't like using it. I prefer to write things down. I can remember to look at it but can't seem to remember to use the PDA.

When taking notes over the phone everything goes onto to a yellow legal tablet.  I rarely tear pages off.  I do use the front and back side of a page.  When the tablet is full it goes into a drawer with 3 or 4 older versions.  I have tablets spanning 3 businesses and about 16 years.  On occasion I've gone back to find a note or a phone number that I didn't transcribe to the computer.  I find by writing things down I tend to remember them better. My wife has the PDA, I just never wanted one.  If a model becomes available with a screen that I can read easily then I might convert.
