If you are committed and work long hours ...

how does your spouse, significant other or life partner feel if you don't get to spend a lot of time together? I noticed Michaela's post about a listing appointment well past my bedtime and just wondered how everyone deals with the time spent away from those closest to you. Of course, some of you are in the real estate business together but my wife works for corporate America and spends as much time working as me so for us, it isn't a problem. What about you? Thanks for your comments and have a great Memorial Day weekend.

My husband totally understands as he has owned his own business for years. I had a problem with it when the kids were home though because we all needed him here more. Now, no kids, we both spend as much time as we need with our businesses and try to keep a "date night" as Friday night. Of course, we eat lunch together every day so we do spend time together. AND I work in his office 2 days a week. We got it down.

Now my "significant other" has a problem with all this, ok, just kidding.

You are assuming my wife thinks of time away from me as a bad thing.

Seriously, though, she is so glad to see me when I do get home, her heart has simply grown fonder from the absence.

No, really, we plan, take short get-a-ways and don't have a lot of distractions at home during the time we spend together.

My husband is a long haul trucker, so he is home sometimes 1 day a week, sometimes 2 days or longer ... and there are times when I don't see him for two weeks ... which in some ways gives me more time to work and when he's home, I try to work my schedule in such way that lets me spend the time with him. My 13-year old stepson also lives with us so I try to be home in the afternoons and evenings as much as I can to make sure he is taken care of, does all his school work, chores and whatever else may arise ... but as any teenager, he doesn't mind me NOT being home those days when I need to be gone ... so far works fine for all of us, though we have been talking constantly about needing to spend more real time together ... not just lunch, dinner and an occassional movie in our living room ... but there isn't really much we can do about it right now, so ... oh, well ...

My background is corporate America where I would leave home at 5:30 a.m. and arrive home any time from 7:00pm to 3:00 am depending upon obstacles in our 24 hour environment.  My wife truly appreciates my 60-80 hour weeks and consider them a much better schedule... oh yes we too eat lunch together each day.

My husband is supportive.  Also, he works in Orlando, Fl and only comes home on the weekends.  This allows me a great deal of time to work on my business.  I'm lucky.

After 31 years in this business, we got the word a couple of months ago that our time together may be limited.  Now I wished that maybe I could taken more time to spend with her. I may have a lot of time in the future to think about this question.

Dennis, please know that your P2 family supports you in whatever situation you are facing, let us know if we can help.

My wife works second shift and that gives me all afternoon and evening to do what I need to do. She doesn't get up until late morning and I have already spend several hours working. No problems here.

Well, I am working on it. I became a workaholic. Not sure when it happened. My husband loves to fish and we live 4 blocks from a lake. But lately I have been to engrossed in work. I have to accomplish what I want before I take any time off. And I seem to never be there. Many of you have seen my post before. I just opened my own real estate office. Yea! So maybe, I can get a few team members to take some clients so I can take a day or half day, or 2 hours, off. Heehee. Everytime I think about taking time off, I think, hmmm it is going to cost me thousands of dollars. Working on it. I feel like he likes the money more than he likes me most of the time anyway. We have reverse roles, traditionally it is the man making the big bucks and the wife spends all the money. He spends it faster than I can make it, he is semi retired. Makes only enough for pocket money for himself. I miss the beach. Hearing the waves crash along the bank. I miss the big fish on the end of the line. I miss my 3 sisters who live in other areas of Texas. I will get there, but for now. 100% effort in this.

I don't have a significant other and no time to find one   :(

My daughter is grown and out of the house so it is just me and my 5 indoor cats, uncounted feral cats outside that I feed, and my mud martins that come back each year and build on my front porch (and 4 baby birds right now!).  Oh, and Paco, the betafish in my office that my daughter bought but doesn't take care of.

OMG, I just realized that I have become the crazy lady that neighborhood kids fear in the movies.
