Thanks for sharing that Howard. That was a very good video.
Hey Howard
So face book is not his bag huh, I look at it twice what is he really trying to say?
Vanceconfusion :(
Vancefusion, to clear it up for you, in the old days of sales and marketing, companies "yelled at strangers" by advertising and sending salespeople out and when the web first arrived, they did the same thing with banner ads, etc. except it didn't work on the Internet. Think about all the real estate me, me web pages. Ughh.
Today, you need permission to build a relationship and the key to web 2.0 is that people can talk about you because there is something in it for them. We live in a collaborative society.
As to facebook and the other social networks, he says they grow fast and die fast because after they grow too large, no one wants to go there any more.
Finally, the best thing you can do is write a blog, find your "voice" and be authentic and consistent in what you say.
Don't miss this video and make sure to bookmark Seth's blog for other great ideas.
Ok Howard the facebook thing is what was bugging me, Point 2 touts is as the being great as to how many people sign up!
Now I see what Seth means because of the fast growth of facebook overnight, looks like to me now that facebook will fall on its Face sooner rather then later...
Vance
Exactly, as he says, just going to social networking sites and inviting a bunch of people to become your "friend" doesn't translate into all of them wanting to talk with you or about you and consequently recommend your services.
What is most recommended is writing a blog, your blog, finding your voice, being authentic and consistent in what you say and having people want to get to know you through that.
As much as I enjoy posting to Reliberation, posting here is not your blog, it is p2's. In fact, this is social networking but on the scale that Seth referred to in the video as being viable because the relibbers have something in common, real estate and p2.
Your blog is on your website. That is where everyone needs to find their voice and communicate with their clients and potential clients.
Yes, we have powered up to the next level and it all gets interesting from here!
Howard, thanks for sharing this video. Sales have always been one on one. Yelling at the masses is great if you enjoy yelling, profitable? No. My husband still turns down the volume on EVERY commercial. He doesn't want yelled at. Seth is right on, we develop relationships before we can benefit from them. It is our job to educate the public, yelling only works when their house is on fire.
Let's face it...we are saturated with commercialism and most everyone is sick of it! I'm sure you have noticed when a catastrophe occurs, such as Katrina, the media networks give the story a theme which becomes the brand on every update and report for that story. At election time, we are inudated with commercials that are selling us a president the same way we are sold a can of soda. I remember years ago when commercial free "pay TV" (Cable) was new. This was a way to avoid commercials, but you paid for it. Well, that didn't last long. Now you pay for cable TV and get the commercials anyway!
But wait, there's more...now there is the DVR and you can fast forward through the commercials of recorded programs!
Seth's approach is a positive and productive one!
Gail, you made an excellent point regarding over commercialization. Candice, the next level will be interesting to be sure. Mary, there is a reason men's hands are perfectly designed to work a remote control.
