I get a little annoyed reading the Daily Newspaper or even turning on the Nightly “Negative” News these days. Do they ever have anything positive to say about Realtors? How Professional most of us are, how much money we can save our clients, how much we give back to the community or perhaps how often we have kept our clients from getting into an ugly legal mess?

The only thing that they like to talk about is that we charge 6% to sell a house, hmm well that is untrue when the National Average is only 5.1% My market in Arizona I would guess that it is more like 4.5% - 5%. Lets remember that when a home is sold the commission is split between the two Realtors (Brokers) representing each party. Lets also remember that the listing Realtor (Broker) carries all of the expenses of advertising these properties, now I realize that some Real Estate agents might just put the house on the Realtor MLS system, take a picture and place a sign in the front yard. If that is the case the homeowner did not do a good job of hiring a Professional Realtor.

With homes staying on the market longer Realtors are spending more money on marketing, The Palmay Group, with Keller Williams Legacy One, located in Chandler Arizona advertises our listing’s in the local papers, professional real estate magazines, numerous websites that we own and update monthly, postcards and other mailers monthly, fliers for the property, signs for the property, signpost and much more. I am not sure the average home seller realizes what the total cost is for us to keep the lights on and stay in business.

We are professionals; we pay malpractice insurance called E&O just like doctors. We look out for our client’s families and offer our years of knowledge about an area that they are considering; we give advice and help our clients make the best decision on this mjor purchase. We aren't buying a Happy Meal at McDonalds or shopping on Ebay for a new doll.

Maybe when Real Estate was hot and the homes were selling in 3 – 4 days the part time realtors hurt our industry. But now with the markets returning back to a normal Real Estate sales cycle most of the part time agents are getting out of the business this can only help our reputations as professionals.

As far as the 6% goes, I wish 60 Minutes would have but more of an effort into the report before it was aired. Maybe they should have asked a Professional Realtor what is the cost of a home being on the market for 3 – 6 Months really is. Instead they focused on a Limited Service Broker who I feel is not a realtor, they are Real Estate Call Centers. I wonder what the average time on market for that company is? Then at the same time we should write to 60 minutes and ask how much they get paid for that same 3 - 6 month time frame? I wonder how much extra we have to pay in our groceries and cable bills etc. just so they have the pleasure of joining our airwaves for 60 minutes a week and being able to put food on the table for their families … oh I am sorry I have to go now, my Limo is waiting outside to take me to my Clients house.
