Contact Information on your web page, or lack there of......

I recently wanted to contact an agent,  I thought what better place than her web site. I viewed the web page and could not find any contact information other than one place to send a contact e-mail that would have to go through her web page and my e-mail would show up as a web lead. No phone #'s. No address of company. Since then I have viewed many web pages that don't have sufficient contact information. I have to look through several tabs to find a persons information, if then. I had my contact information in several places, but this prompted me to go to my web site, edit my template and now on every page I have a right column with my phone # and e-mail. Some times folks like myself prefer to just send an e-mail rather than call. So don't forget to put your e-mail address.  Check it out folks, how many folks forget the most important thing. Did you?

You are so right, Karen.  I've noticed that on many sites.  I'm told some people do it for security purposes and I guess I can understand that.  With your picture, physical address, etc. on the www a stalker could very easily find you, if he (or she!) wanted.

I think, though, that the risks are just as great being in the Yellow Pages or in passing out business cards.  Which is why I put my office's location, work, fax and cell on everything.  If people can't reach you, how can they list or buy with you?

If you put your e-mail address, you are asking for more spam.  There are programs that scan websites to gather addresses for spamming.  If you include it, you should make it less recognizable as an address, example: "myemail @ yahoo dot com".  Besides removing spaces, you need to replace "dot" with "." to make it valid.  I prefer to just use the P2 email link for visitors to send me messages.

Whew!!! I checked my website to see if it was me.  Thank goodness it wasn't.  I hear you though.  I was looking at several websites and couldn't find contact info.  If you were a client you would probably go to someone that is easy to contact.  HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!!!!

NAR Code of Ethics 2007 rules state that:

Standard of Practice 12-9

REALTOR® firm websites shall disclose the firm’s name and state(s) of

licensure in a reasonable and readily apparent manner.

Websites of REALTORS® and non-member licensees affiliated with a

REALTOR® firm shall disclose the firm’s name and that REALTOR®’s or

non-member licensee’s state(s) of licensure in a reasonable and

readily apparent manner. (Adopted 1/07)

Although NAR doesn't specifically state it in the COE, it has been widely felt that this information should be no more than 1-click away from the homepage. I agree that when you try to send someone with a P2 site it is difficult and you show up as a 'Hot' prospect! Rather than add a direct link to your email address on your site, you could do what Rod suggested or you can create a signature graphic that isn't clickable. This can be done with any photoshop type program or even with Paint if you don't have any other software. I add a mouseover to my graphic that says "To reduce spam, this is NOT a clickable link and you will need to type it into your email message". There are also downloads of programs that will scramble your email address for 'scrapers' but will open correctly if someone wants to send you an email.

I try framing contact info on every page of the site.  Nice point b/c I have noticed that myself.

You work in Canyon Lake.  We live in Bulverde.  Just moved here last year. It's a wonderful area.

Take Care.

You can also make it part of your template so that makes it easy.

Since we are putting ourselves out there to list and sell, we can't really live in the world of "coulda, woulda, shoulda." I have always tried to provide a physical address - my office. I feel that as a business person I should respect my clients as much as they respect me. In my recent past I did have one credit card stolen, now I handle things a bit differently.

If we feel we need to live and work in fear, we are in the wrong business.

I live just out of New Braunfels..so we are all neighbors - ain't life grand in the Hill Country?

Cathy, Yes, in this business, you cannot have any privacy. Afraid of spam. Well, I have a delete button and a spam filter. I guess when I get so much business I don't need them to find me, then I can take it off. And safety, come on. I have magnetic signs on side of my vehicle with my cell #. If they want my money, they are up for a fight. They can have my credit score. Don't care.

Yes, Velda, that is where I did it on the template. It is easier thanks for sharing that.

Christina and Anna, I am glad to have you as neighbors, Yes, bulverde is great and so is New Braunfels. I just sold a home in New Braunfels. It is a great place to live and work. I moved to Canyon Lake from San Antonio 2 years ago.  And Christina, I used to live near Galveston. Moved to San Antnio 10 years ago. Texas rules! OK, JK, all of you.

Gene, yes, they have to put their broker information, I want to e-mail an agent. Isn't that what web sites are for? To do business via internet. I don't want to go by her office and meet the broker.  I work in San Antonio area, my broker is in Houston.

Too funny Gloria. No.
