New users to Vista tips and tricks to make it easier

It always seems no matter what , changing and upgrading can never be easy.  I was  not excited because of all the effort it takes to just get all these gadgets up and running and just using something new.

This new vista program is driving me nuts!!! It seems not matter what you do,  it ask you a multiple  times ARE you sure? allow program? then provides almost a hidden top bar to click on to get where you where wanting to go.

Here's a tip I learned

Under the health check back-up the program. You must use a disc or external drive. ( the program goes directly to the d drive and deny's stating low memory) . The tricky thing is the way they have it set up is very misleading. When your are first setting up your system, (I thought it was like a back up for system restore, to create a restore point  in windows XP.)

So any one feel like sharing some information and their experience with Vista and possible easy fix? I would love to know how to stop it from asking so many questions, one time is enough , but it repeats itself serveral times.

However there is a very cool updating system that you can check for current updates and compatibility upgrades and notifies you when a better solution is found to older programs. Health check is nice too.

If your planning to upgrade XP to Vista be sure you have some time to waste and patients to read a lot . I have not been able to find the proffessor Xp that gives you,  for an overview of how everything is set up .

LOL Dan! It's still a good idea to have some workaround posts for Vista.

If you use ZIPFORMS and Vista's been giving you grief:

Try switching your 'Themes' to Classic View.

Lisa, I struggled for 3 weeks trying to get our Peachtree accounting software to work on Vista. We had one problem after the next. Finally I put my daughter on the phone with tech support because she is meaner than me and we got it resolved. I will be sure to wait a year or two after something new comes out to make sure they have all the kinks out before I jump in again.

Mary, you're my new heroine, you got peachtree to work.  Even on Windows for Workgroups it was too much for me and I opted for quickbooks pro.

Lisa your adventures with Vista are my reason for sticking with Dan and XP.  I'll be looking forward to see how you and Candice feel about Vista in the future.

Klaus, I just bought a laptop in February, deliberately chose one with Vista because it's for teaching and I was sure I would get questions about it.

I'm ALREADY SORRY I did this. I don't know if it's because of Vista or because I'm such a creature of habit, wanting to have everything work intuitively so I can focus on the actual class material. Either way, it's cumbersome when all my other computers have XP.

Thanks C, I use multiple platforms and still think windows went downhill with 95.  I'm sure I will be following you into Vista one of these days.  I have read some good things about application integration and the media center.

Amazing to think how far back that was (win95) Was it 95 or 98, or was it Millennium that when it was unveiled, did not work properly?

well i tried to get XP but is no longer available on new PC"s Realy I had no choice, in the matter.

Vista has been nothing but pure heart ache and waste of time with somethings. However I have been able to get some other things to work properly and get the drivers updated correctly.

For those of you that have no choice and use Palm os deck top there is a driver support update coming out this summer some time> no date has been given other than this summer.

If you dont have to upgrade to vistas then don't  waite untill the bugs are all worked out. I think thta will happen pretty fast concering what i have heard at every chat and on line help live chat I have been to in the last 3 days.

I will be downgrading my ekey to the old fashion telephone updater monday, very disappointing but no choice. I will realy miss having the mls and my fingers.
