I can't figure out what 'impressions' mean

What exactly does that mean anyway?  I have listing 'impressions', neighborhood 'impressions', where do they come from?  I've been through the boards and manuals.  They haven't answered my question.  I'm sure I'd rather have some impressions than no impressions, right?

Hey Martha

Have you had a chance to take a look at http://homes.point2.com/ this is where your listing impressions come from, everyone who visit homes.point2 and click on your listings is considered a listing impression for your listings that are on your site.  In addition if you purchased on of the point2 neighborhood pages through their dutch style auction you will also receive neighborhood impressions everytime someone visit one of your neighborhood pages.

I hope that answered your ?s

My confusion is that I think an 'impression' is different from a 'view'.  An actual click would be a view, right?  My thoughts are that its just a passing through the site.

Hi Kelly

That is my thought...the consumer may open a neighborhood page and see your featured property, but not click...I get thousands of impressions on my featured listing but only a few clicks.  And we all know that clicks result in sometimes prospects and impressions are like a billboard...they are like drive bys

An "impression" is how many times your page has been displayed... not clicked on.

A lot of people also get "hits" confused with "unique visits" too.

Example: If I have a web page that has 100 unique URL's (or links including graphics) on the page and someone views my page one time, my stats log it as "100 hits."

On one day I may have 600 hits, which is only 61 actual visitors that are recorded as unique visits.

Totally different from unique visits where you can determine exactly how many different people actually visited your web page.

A good stat to keep up with is where your visitors are exiting from on your web site too.  Take the time to learn your site reports... they provide valuable info as to where people go from your home page and how long they have been there.

I don't think anyone has clicked on my "free reports" page in a month. HA!

Good point, Steven.  I think I'll watch those exits.  I need to plug the hole in the boat and make them stay on board longer! :-)

Martha if I have a high number of Impressions for a week and very few click throughs, I modify my neighborhoods and other aspects of my listings to see if I can get the click throughs to increase. Once on my site on monitor how long they stay and play with things to try to get people to stay on my site as long as possible.

How long has it generally taken from when you first started your site to see prospects?
