Have you checked your website on other computers?

On Monday when I went in to my office, I pulled up my website on one of their computers.  I was shocked to see the right side of my front page was cut off.  I have to think that the general public has the same view. It never occurred to me that my front page would look like that!  How do yours look?

It's not so much as how other computers display our web sites as in what resolution (screen settings) or types of monitors those viewing our sites are using. Anyone out there have a suggestion to ensure our sites are assured to be viewed fully regardless of the resolution or monitor type (flat panel or CRT; 14", 15", 17", or wide screens) There's probably something within the P2 Agent tutorials in this regard.

Martha, I have not had that problem, when I travel I use my website in hotels and everything looks the same.  Maybe an adjustment on the screen in the office is required or it may be small. Good luck with it.

Just a suggestion, Martha.  Had the computer been rebooted recently?  Sometimes I see flaws in site appearance, but it's most often been that my system has not been turned off and on for days.

You site looks great today!

Martha - Ultra Stats has a report that states the following on clients screen resolution: This report shows the horizontal by vertical number of pixels your site's visitors' computers are capable of displaying. Generally speaking, it is advisable for at least the homepage of a website to fit within the 800x600 pixel size. This is a common resolution for 15 inch monitors.

When I design our pages, I always try to make sure that the page appears to only take up 1/2 - 3/4 of the width of my entire viewing area and this usually ensures that our site loads properly in any browser and monitor size.

Martha, yes mine is different. I have 3 or 4 computers and the one at home has the entire site showing. The one at my office has humongous print, sounds like I need to make some changes, I have been just dealing with it, now I know what I can do. I am not teckie at all but I can make a mean pan of lasagne.

If you are still working on this issue here are couple of things you need to do.

Our web sites have “dynamic” pages that mean if you properly edit them, they will show correctly on any screen size. Most problems come from editing tables. Our sites can have 3 columns and each column could be max 150 pixels. When you edit your tables or photos make sure to keep this measure or simply set it to be in the width of 100% not pixels or Ems.

To edit existing content:

- Go to the Edit Website section

- While under Website Editing Tools ensure that you are on Edit Content

- Choose the page from your menu list that you want the content to be edited from

- Select Edit Content (or Edit Header depending on the type of content section) from the applicable content block (left, center or right columns)

- Select the content and images (once it is selected it will be blue in color) and edit appropriately

- Click on OK to save your changes

You will need to go into each column and edit the content to allow for resizing. Don't put content mentioned to go in the central column in the side columns. This will allow the site to better display.

If you do not understand what I am talking about, go to your office computer, edit some table or picture so it fits that smaller screen, remember settings and use them for everything else on your computer with bigger screen.

I hope this will help.

I have two computers, one has a smaller screen so I can jump back and forth to check each page.

It appears that the custom .jpg images I have on some of my pages will not allow the page to shrink to fit.

Pages without my custom .jpg files shrink down to fit to screen just fine.

I guess I need to go in and tweak some more, people with laptops are probably bolting if they have to slide back and forth across the screen to see everything!

It is not so bad if you are only using two columns, but if you go to three you have to be really careful about image size.

It looks like you have to be careful with weather modules as well, vertical format with lock your page up and keep it from adjusting to screen size.
