I have had the best luck with the HP all in ones, I had the office jet 4215 for about 3 years and lightning hit a telephone pole and fried it

I now have the HP 3050 Laser jet it only prints in black and white but scans in color and its not a flat bed which is nice for contracts and multiple page faxes plus the incoming is nice and clear.

I use the HP 2600n color laser jet for my flyer's and other printing and it costs about 23 cents per page including paper and ink.

Buy it at office max and get the extended warranty and they will fix or replace it free for whatever reason I feel its worth the extra money spent.

And no I'm not a sales rep for HP it's just that I have tried several brands over the years and they seem to be the longest lasting for me.

Mary, I like the Brother multi function machines either ink jet or laser, (i prefer black only laser toner machines) also I've had good luck with Lexmark flatbed units but the cost of ink gets expensive unless you buy cheap refills.

I have been using a HP 6100 Photo Smart all in one for a little over one year now and am very happy with how it works.  It does have a flat bed scaner, but it also has a place to feed legal pages into for faxing or scaning.  I purchased mine at Sams Club.

I have been using a Canon MP780 All-in-One for the last few years. It has a flatbed and a document feeder.  Scans are good and when you scan using the text enhancement it cleans up the faxes.  Refills are easy to get.

I also use the HP2600n for most of my printing needs.  You can buy the 2600n at Costco for $249 with full cartridges.  Cheaper than the cost of the individual refills.  Donate the old printer for tax purposes.

I vote for the HP all in one.  Last year my HP broke, I called HP-they fedexed me a new one-no charge.  They made me a life time customer.

I usea  great broadband fax unit made by Sharp. It was only $99 at Sams Club and works great and saves money on phone bills.

I have been using an HP 4215 all in one. It's not a flat bed, so you can't scan pages out of a book, but for contracts and such it is great. I'll get another HP when this one goes out.

Funny, before I read your second line, I was going to advise against the HP 7410. I HATE IT! The document feeder has been messed up for along time.  If you try to just put it on there and fax something, most of the time you get a jammed error message, and the rest of the time it pulls two or three pages at a time.  So you have to stand there and keep it from plulling to many pages while faxing anything.

So anyway, I too need a good recommendation for a long lasting Combo with flat bed and document feeder.

They do fantastic work and I paid 10 cents a copy delivered because 10% of the cost of the order goes toward shipping which covered UPS ground.  The paper is really really white making the color really bright. The turn around is super fast as well. Their site is great and you can upload files easily and I had the finished work two days after ordering.  

I know that last was a little off the subject, but I think 10 cent color copies is worth spreading the word about (and they are great).

I just purchased a HP L7580 Officejet Pro all-in-one about a month ago. Been really happy with it so far. Print quality is great for house flyers and brochures.

I have a Brother MFC5440 that I have had for 5-6 years. It still works great, but the cartridges don't seem to yield alot and are a little on the expensive side considering the yield. I recently purchased an HP Color Laser Jet 1600 and am more than impressed so far. The quality is great and based on my estimates, each color print costs about 15 cents per. This machine was on sale for $180.00 including a full set of cartridges. Replacement cartridges run about $200.00 and include the drum, which can run well over $200 on other machines.

We just purchased the HP L7580 All-in-One and love it (Circuit City currently has it on sale...it's $60 higher at Office Max). It does have a flat bed and document feeder and the print quality is very nice...closer to laser jet quality, as well as the fact that it gives you multiple printing options. The scanning feature is very easy to use and again the quality is superb. We've always had HP and wouldn't go with anyone else.

My HP Desk Jet is still pumping out the scans after 5 years. I wouldn't trade it for a new HP anyday.

On a larger scale for my office leased a Konica/Minolta Bizhub C353...This is an awesome machine but comes with a handsome price tag.

Pretty much anything "cheap" you buy these days up to about $300 is a throw away. They are not worth fixing once they break.

I have an OKI printer as well....I'd definately consider them for an all in one. I've had it for 4 years. It's just a printer but is of excellent quality. I believe they make an all in one too. The HP's I'm afraid anymore are pretty junky. They've had to make them cheaper because people are getting those cartridges refilled now. That used to be HP's bread and butter. Their profit was not in the printer but in supplying you with ink for the next 2 to 3 years.
