MY Web Providers BIGGEST Mistake EVER!!

By: Matt Smith
Wednesday, October 31, 2007 3:31 PM

I think this is a REAL ESTATE issue as it affects our listings. So I hope this post does not get moved.

Is anyone else offended that Point 2 is branding the listings pictures on your website?

I am deeply offended.

I do not care for it one bit.

My SELLER’S do not like it one bit.

It detracts from the homes pictures.

When people click that inital picture they are interested in a home NOT Point 2 Branding.

If Point 2 wants to do it….I say It should be by choice… NOT forced down our pie holes.

What do you think?

Matt, doesn't your MLS do the same thing?  Ours does.  All of the photos have a "watermark" on them from out MLS.

I don't really see it as any sort of issue.  I think it's there so people can't steal your photos and use them.

Havin' a bit of a ruff day bud?  Your sellers are offended?  Is this the same couple that called you last week to rip you a new one because someone left the seat up in the basement powder room on the commode when somebody showed it?  Or the ones that went ape when someone turned lights "off" when they showed their trailer?

Nothing personal here Matt, but I see no reason to fume over the branding...the more "important" the P2 brand becomes the better for all of us.

And no I don't work for P2, but I love what they have created, and their forward vision.  Best damn thing that has happened to my business in 21 years.

Matt, it is all about copyright protection and surely not a problem. How is the pricing of the house?

Matt the photos are "Branded" only on Point2 Homes site, Not your site

Click the link from Point2 Homes that goes to your site and the pictures will not be branded.

I never really thought about it before this post, I mean I new the branding was there, but never really paid it much attention. Then I went to P2 Homes to check it out and found it to be somewhat distracting, but only because it had been pointed out here, and I was totally looking for it in the picture!

Sometimes things can become a problem for us from over-analisys, that in reality are not really a problem at all.

Matt, it is the new buzz word: intellectual proprietary, or, property. It is to prevent that "super" agent from using your photographs when the listing expires (it will expire!). It ticks me off, too! I LOVE copy and paste. Don't you?

Hi Matt

Well here is my take on this subject.

As far as I am aware of the person who has taken photos that are in view of public  domain is the copyright owner of the photos..

I have had builders ask me if it was ok to use some of the photos that I have taken and are on my sites, for there brochures!! go figure of course I said yes its fair use of there photos in the first place.

Would I want my photos branded, only unless it was stated that my photos were courtesy of Vance Remele© to get the benefit of the advertisement.

Oh Matt just for Giggles in one of your handshakes you have some advertising of your own going on, ha ha ha

Vance, you are too quick. Damn, Matt. Now how I am I going to use that photo when the listing expires?

BTW: None of the 4 MLS companies that I belong to will allow me to put my sign up.

1. We have no MLS. I am thankful for that.

2. I had a good day yesterday, 2 closings... Thanks for asking.

3. The watermarks are on my website. If it remained only on the P2 site I would be ok with that.

4. If someone steals a photo from me that my problem not P2's. I really don't see "photo stealing" of our listings as being a big problem.  *If a “Super Agent” stole my photos I would go “talk” to super agent. I would have no problem solving the problem. {I’m not timid.}

5. Can't the photo still be stolen with a watermark on it? Who is going to police all the stolen photos?

My point is... Whats the point?

It was a bad decision in my book that should be reversed or made optional.

Matt you already branded one of your photos yourself, no one will steal it.... :)

Vance, I think I can photo shop that picture. I'll add some nice shrubs and maybe add a little something to the windows and place a Lexus in the driveway, too. Just things the next owner may want to do. Photo shop is FUN.

Vance, Now I SEE what you mean.

I am not aware of anyone acutally showing our listings on their website so I guess I am ok. I could / will take the picture out... if I find someone showing our listings.

The nearest person using Point 2 to us is 160 miles away. We used to show their listings but somehow with the last update they all went away and have not been back.

You're right, Beth, and this is being worked on as we speak.  A more subtle watermark should be in place early next week.
