At the beginning of 2008 a group of us from our office sat down and answered 150 questions about our career in a very fast paced meeting and then took the results home to utilize toward our goal planning for the year. Here's a sample: I would be interested in your answers, if your willing to share?

  1. Do you have a Vision or Mission Statement?
  2. What's ONE BIG Career Question that's gnawing away at you, that you don't know the answer?
  3. Are you really good at asking for business?
  4. What advice do you give a friend that's in a Slump?
  5. What's the secret to sales success?

OK, I'll answer these HONESTLY! <grin>

1. Do you have a Vision or Mission Statement?

Yes. I need to make at least $3,000 a month so I don't have to take money out of my savings account to maintain my standard of living.  Heck that's only one little deal a month.

2. What's ONE BIG Career Question that's gnawing away at you, that you don't know the answer?

Should I get involved in REO property ( doing BPO's, listing REO's etc.).  It seems like such a pain.  Is it worth the trouble?

3. Are you really good at asking for business?

No.

4. What advice do you give a friend that's in a Slump?

You won't get any more business sitting here.  Get up and go to work.

5. What's the secret to sales success?

Success is in the eye of the beholder.  MY success is different than YOUR success.

There.  I said it.

1. Do you have a Vision or Mission Statement?

Vision Statement  -- "Generations of commitment; our clients find their own special place called home in Sturgeon County. Experienced, caring and passionate about our community, we take pride in guiding our clients through their most important real estate decisions.”

~ Rick & Patrick Milligan

2.  What's ONE BIG Career Question that's gnawing away at you, that you don't know the answer?

Will my marketting campaign be as effective as I hope it to be this year, and how long will my plan be original?

3.  Are you really good at asking for business?

Not yet mastered, but i have gotten 2 personal referrals this week, so I guess not bad.  It's a goal of mine to improve it this year through my marketting.

4.  What advice do you give a friend that's in a Slump?

Pick a niche market.  Decide you are the expert in that niche.  Be that expert.  Perception is reality, and people are drawn to thos who have self confidence and perceive them as successful.  When someone asks how you are, no matter how crappy your day, be nothing less than fantastic.  They don't want to hear your problems, they have enough of their own.  Be a positive influence, and people will come to you for that influence.  If people are going to work with you, you need to brighten their day, not dampen it.

5.  Positive works, but not without planning.  S.M.A.R.T. goals are great, but make sure you have someone willing to challenge you to meet those goals and not jsut sluff them off, coaches and partners are great.

Know where you are going, know your path, and Know you are going to get there.

1. Do you have a Vision or Mission Statement?

We help people solve problems.

2. What's ONE BIG Career Question that's gnawing away at you, that you don't know the answer?

I am not experiencing a gnawing career question at the moment, fortunately.

3. Are you really good at asking for business?

I would say I'm pretty good. And add that there are many ways of asking for business that are not all verbal. Just showing up, smiling and being enthusiastic is a big step in drawing it.

4. What advice do you give a friend that's in a Slump?

Take a bit of time to get organized, then a little more to do something wonderful for you that is completely personal--a day of hiking, gardening, trying a new recipe, or shopping or sleeping--whatever will 'reboot your internal system' and ready you to reenter the world of affairs.

5. What's the secret to sales success?

Memorizing and using the five most powerful words in sales: HOW CAN I HELP YOU?

  1. Do you have a Vision or Mission Statement?

Simple - serve the public and be able to look at myself in the mirror each morning.

  2. What's ONE BIG Career Question that's gnawing away at you, that you don't know the answer?

Where are all the qualified buyers in my market? I am tired of hearing from the post-foreclosure "can I get the owner to finance until I can repair my credit" buyers. Person opinion: Move over Chrystal Meth - credit overextension is the nations new addiction and there is a line of new addicts forming every day.

  3. Are you really good at asking for business?

I am relentless.

  4. What advice do you give a friend that's in a Slump?

Get off your ass.

  5. What's the secret to sales success?

Success is subjective. If I don't have to pay expenses out of savings, I am successful that month.

Brian, You win the prize for most hilarious answers. I love your description of the Crystal Meth - credit overextension is the nation’s new addiction. LOL. Candice is laid back as usual. That dog must keep her relaxed. Patrick, I would take your answer to the next sales meeting. Steven, you had the most honest answer, stop beating up on yourself.

Thank you everyone. Maybe the rest of the Old Pros out there have some advice? Things seem a little slow around Re-hibernation lately. (Sorry, I met to say Reliberation)
