Recruiting agents - OK to target certain P2 members?

I have mentioned it before that I would like for my company to grow ... however, not at the expense of mass recruiting but rather building a long lasting team. And, naturally, I have been playing with the idea of also recruiting from among the P2 members. What's stopping me right now is ... I know how much we all dislike when we get phone calls and e-mails from all kinds of service and lead providers who contact us because we are P2 members (I am sure we all have some level of experience with these unwelcome offers) ... I simply don't know how would my efforts be viewed.

What I have in mind ... and here is where I am hoping to get your honest opinion on things ... I spend a lot of time looking at other local agents' websites, see what they do, what they don't do ... and from time to time I just get this "feeling" that "this" is just the right agent for us ... the way they handle business, market themselves ... the whole nine yards. Most of us are used to "targeting" a certain real estate market segment ... and when it comes to hiring agents, I would like to "target" a certain type of agents ... new age - Internet savvy agents. Now, there are other agents out there with other than P2 website providers and I am of course planning on targeting them as well, but naturally P2 is the first network that comes to my mind ... not to mention I want all my agents to have at least a standard P2 site to market themselves so why not hire some who already know the system?

What do you think? Good idea? Bad idea? Would you personally mind if a broker wanted to recruit you because of how you market yourself and your business on the internet?

Hi Michaela,

I suppose it would depend on your interpretation of the opening disclaimer of RElib which bans "Commercial Solicitation" etc.

Hi Michaela

I think it would be fine to do it by e-mail to point2 agents. I get e-mails from brokers all the time and it just shows me the broker is doing his or her job, they need to prospect for good agents just as I have to prospect for good listings and buyers. Just give them an opt out.

Okay, I'll go to work with you, but I have a list of demands that have to be met:

1. A personal masseuse

2. A private parking space with a pemanent Agent Of The Month sign.

3. An assistant named Bambi.

4. A year's supply of Reese's Cups.

5. A second assistant named Bambi.

Thank you guys!

Carl, that's the thing ... this is why I came to ask for advice to Relib ... is it "commercial solicitation"? e-mailing a few agents because I like the way they do business? There are over 2000 member sites in Illinois and I am thinking about a handful of agents.

Bob, you are right, I get these recruiting e-mails all the time as well and I don't mind. I am thinking about contacting them just one time, so they wouldn't even need to opt out of anything.

Michaela, you just took the first step!  :)

You let it be known that you would love for good agents via this forum to talk to you about employment. So you have already set that in motion.

I've been contacted by brokers because of my online presence. I don't mind and am flattered.

You know the right frequency and manner of making contact without being overly aggressive. Go for it!

With this post you have already contacted P2 agents, Nice job.... and no, I don't think agents mind being told their pro's, experienced and wanted.

Speaking from a purely comfort standpoint, I would look here first to find an agency in Chicago if I was thinking of making a move. I would prefer to go to a more progressive brokerage that was already familiar with the tools I use. There are so many agencies out there that don't keep abreast of the advances and community options available to agents that they do themselves a terrible disservice.

I don't think your blog is commercial solicitation at all.

I like Mike's list but I will have to drop the assistants named Bambi in favor of a couple of hunky Dirk Studly's and will expect a chauffeur driven limo to ferry us around.   I am fine with the peanut butter cups and the parking spot.  Oh yes, I nearly forgot. I will expect the use of a corporate chalet in Aspen and unlimited use of a villa in Greece overlooking the beaches on Mykonos.

LOL Brian, Dirk Studly . . . woo hoo!

Michaela, these boys got some demands! You better call Bambi, Bambi and Dirk and see if they will come on board first. And call the boat dealer. Real estate brokerage is a very expensive business.

The law of attraction works--see, you already have two great prospects!  ;)  ;)  ;)

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate your views.

Brian, we're in Lake County ... would Wilmot Mountain do the trick? :-) (for non-locals - Wilmot Mountain is a ski-hill/mountain in Wisconsin, right accross the IL border).

That would be the main reason a broker would recruit me...
