Microsoft Office 2007 vs. older versions of Office ... is the new one worth upgrading?

I'm thinking about getting Microsoft Office 2007, mainly what I want is the latest Publisher and most importantly new version of Outlook. Are any of you using the 2007 versions? Are they worth it? ... and by that I don't mean in terms of $$$ but are there any considerable improvements when comparing to the older in my case 2003 version? I haven't used Publisher in quite a few years and am thinking about switching back to it and hope to like the 2007 edition. I used to use Outlook on a daily basis up until couple months ago when my Outlook just went "crazy" and anytime I open it, it keeps on downloading my e-mails over and over and over ... until I close it and try to forget about it. Supposedly it has to do with the huge amount of old e-mails I keep in my mailbox ... I simply have it as a "backup" accessible from anywhere over the internet. I don't delete anything except for junk. I am hoping that Outlook 2007 may have this "little" downloading issue solved and will make me happy.

Those of you who use either Publisher or Outlook 2007, do you like it? Are there any major / minor improvements that can make our lives easier? ... I noticed that some of the versions include Contact Manager for Outlook ... is it something I can use?

I am always careful when there is a "new and better" that comes out in the market.  I had other software not compatible when I upgraded (one that hurt was my scanner).  Some of the new Microsoft products are being put out for their new Vista.

Gary is helping Marcia and I get hooked up with a good contact management program.  Really need to update that.  I told him what we needed and Gary thinks ACT will do the job, cause I don't need or want all the bells and whistles.

I have Publisher Pro, and Marcia and the office has Publisher - guess what my Publisher Pro is not compatible with the older version... Check that out too.

Thanks Jana. I used to have ACT when I first started in real estate. Was a good contact management software but I don't think it had the option to use it for e-mail. Or am I wrong? Can you use ACT to access your POP3 e-mail accounts?

I noticed today on Microsoft website that they give a free trial for two weeks I think. So I'm thinking I might give it a shot and see what it's really about. My main think is to have contact management and e-mail all in one.

I have Office 2007 which I upgraded from 2003. I use Outlook everyday but havn't played much with Publisher. I always thought Publisher was a great program and I'm sure that hasn't changed. I don't notice many significant differences in the newer Outlook though. You can use it as a RSS feed reader but I'm quite happy with the reader which is built in to IE7.

Microsoft doesn't say much about what's new on their website but they do have a "trial" that you can try via your web browser at http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/products/HA101741481033.aspx

Probably worth taking it for a spin.

Michaela - Unless MS changed their Office package, Publisher is not included with it. I have an earlier MS Office and it only came with Word, Outlook, Frontpage, Access, Excell, and Powerpoint. Publisher was always a stand-alone product sold separately.

Gene, they now offer 4 different MS Office packages and Publisher is included in two of them (MS Office Professional and MS Office for Small Businesses) ... I'm thinking about the one for Small Businesses as that is the one that has both Outlook and Publisher.

so, I downloaded the trial version and so far so good ... it took me awhile to get used to the new "modern" look of the individual programs, but once I figured out the way to get around, I actually like it!
