How about a REALTORS' Recipe Book?!

By: Phil Anderson

Yesterday, I had to stop by my auto dealership, as I had worn out the driver’s side floor mat (filthy from all the times I climbed in with soaking wet shoes; Portland, Oregon, ya’ know…PLUS my shoe heels always seem to wear right through the carpet of the mat after about a year and I usually lease for 2!).

Anyway, as I was paying for the FOUR mats ($80?!  Why do they insist on selling you 4 when you really, or usually only need 1 or 2?   Darn capitalists!), there was a $10 recipe book for sale at the cashier’s window.  All the recipes were donated by different folks that worked at the local dealership, and the proceeds would be donated to a local kids’ charity.   It was an annual thing they have been doing for 10 years.

So, I was wondering;  That would make a pretty cool gift for my past clients…and cheap too…But, I’d like to personalize it a little…

If Realtors here sent their fav recipes to me, I’d volunteer to compile them using Word.  Appetizers, salads, main courses, dessert, soup.  No holds barred. Then I’d email them back out to anyone here that wanted a full copy.  We each could then edit the “Cookbook” as each saw fit.   Add photos, poems, or dirty jokes.  (Kidding about the dirty jokes Stick out tongue.)

I think you can go to Kinko’s and have copies duplicated and bound on the cheap.

Anyway, if anyone is interested, send me your recipe, and I will in-turn send you all the recipes that are submitted.

Brother Phil, you see a lot of you don't realize Phil and I share the same Birthday. We were born at the same time in different years and had different Mothers. However, other than that we are twins. We share the same hairline and intellectual prowess.

So my Brother Phil my question is can I put road kill recipes in if I show how to clean a road kill? This will make Mother Earthy cleaner and feed the hungry. All of which I am the almost supporter.

Philz, you know me and this was all done in jest. I actually think this is a great idea and hope all support it. Good luck and let me know if I can help in your campaign.

What a great idea! We were driving around our "Neighborhood" and stopped at a yard sale the other day! Folks had boxes of books and as I was digging through, found a small cookbook that my former broker had given as a closing gift over 25-30 years ago. Had his photo (Barely recognized) and contact info..  this was way before emails and cell phones and fax numbers) so folks will keep this! By the way, bought the well worn and well used cookbook for a quarter and returned it to him.  We all had fun remembering those days.  Perhaps it is time to get back to the basics!  Great idea Phil.  Just emailed you one of our favorite family recipes. Looking forward to the collection.

Phil!!!! Glad to see you. Don't let that Gary razz you. Everyone knows you are the handsome twin.

But, come on, Phil. No one is going to pay a real estate agent $10 for recipe book. If the office down the street finds out they will sell it for $5 and then it will be FREE like our CMA. We have found the enemy and he is.............

Sounds good to me, you should include Town Clerks as well they have a recipe swap almost daily in some places :-)

Of course, most of these recipes came from somewhere else and not originals.

Here's my favorite:

ANTIPASTO SQUARES (very easy)

In a 9 x 13 pan

350 degrees, 30 minutes covered then 20-30 minutes uncovered.

2 pkg. Pillsbury Cresent Rolls

1 large sweet roasted peppers

1/4 lb. genoa salami

(meat and cheese should be sliced thin)

1/4 lb. boiled ham

1/4 cup swiss cheese

1/4 provolone

4 eggs

2 tbsp grated cheese

Spray 9x13 pan then lay in one package of cresent rolls, then cover with layer of salami, 1 layer of provoloneand 1/2 of the peppers strips, then layer of ham, layer of swiss cheese then the rest of the ppper strips.

Beat 3 eggs and pour over layers, sprinkle grated cheese on top. then place 2nd package of crescent rolls on top and brush with one beaten egg.

bake covered for 30 minutes then uncovered 20-30 minutes until golden brown.

ENJOY!

Hey Dr. Phil, ya surfaced!  Even though I don't cook/bake, I've got some great recipes - but I'm still unpacking from my move.  When's the cut-off?

Sorry, Phil! It is a worthwhile endeavor. I even compiled one a few years back like Dixie's former broker but, it was on a computer that used those big "floppy" disks (I think they were 5 1/4).

My personal recipes come from the backs of ketchup bottles and mayonnaise jars. So, I can't send them in to you to publish.

Good luck with it. It should be great with P2A from around the world it really will be a great cook book.

It is good to see you again.

No worries, Greg!   And funny about the 5 1/4" disks!   I forgot all about them!  My first computer didn't have a hard drive for storage use; only held the operating system. I had to put a disk in with whatever software I wanted to use (word processing, spreadsheet)...Still, I thought it was pretty cool.  Dot-Matrix printer!  I was stylin'!

I don't think I'll charge anything for the book (assuming we get enough recipes to even make one!).   Just thought it would be a unique gift.  I have lots of recipe books that I never use, but I never throw them away, either!

Send some, Jana!  Please.  We need more "main course" recipes.  We have lots of sides and desserts.

Thank you!
