Tablet PC's and Electronic Signatures

I am getting ready to take the plunge into the REALLY connected world...  I had been on my way before- I use E-Key, E-Data and am (impatiently) waiting for the release of SafeMLS for smartphones...

I already bought the tablet PC, installed Winforms on it and am wondering about my next step.

Do I really have to spend another $25/month plus a $200 setup fee to allow my customers to sign electronically?  I tried using a PDF annotator but Winforms didn't care for it (the document was protected).

 Are there any other solutions?

Winforms is the California version of Zipforms (that is my understanding, anyway).  They have a similar service called Esign available but that's not what I'm looking for.  I'm looking for a solution to have my customers sign the contract on my tablet pc with the digital pen...

Laura,

I too am very interested in what you find out.  I was just getting ready to buy the PC tablet specifically for that purpose.  The Adobe software will let you sign with a digital ID which is a great feature that I would recommend using until you find the digital pen signature software you are looking for.

I have been doing this for over a year........

Invest in Adobe PDF writer. I purchased a used version on Ebay for about $100.

Import your contracts, even if already in PDF form, into your software that allows you to write on your tablet. My Fujitsu Tablet uses Windows Journal.

Write the contact as you normally would and have the buyer or seller sign the document, then click File, then print, then select Adobe PDF as the printer.

This will print the file as a PDF, that can be saved, then emailed emailed. In the state of Florida it is legal to do this, but you may want to check your local laws. If I am sending a document right away, I also copy my client (bcc) onto the email, so they see my communication with the other agent. Its just that simple....

I also use Adobe PDF for EVERY other document, makes it easy to send sellers disclosures, estimated closing cost right to the clients email, or other agents if needed. If I am doing a listing presentation and want to show the seller their estimated proceeds, I have a spreadsheet that allows me to change: sales price, marketing cost based on that sales price, title insurance based on sales price and print it to PDF before I leave the clients home. I have a copy, and they have a copy immediately.

Had to drop my tablet off for servivce today to replace the fan, was meeting a client to write up a contract, and was feeling lost by doing it old school with just a calculator and a paper contract.

Don't want to invest in Adobe PDF, I believe you can also save the file as a .prn file, which should be able to be viewed in internet explorer and to me isn't that much different than a fax. That too can be emailed, but alot of people are not familiar with that file type or how to open it.

I was wondering if that would work...  I just need to convert the contract to PDF using the PDF print driver rather than the PDF converter built into Winforms (Zipforms).  I will try that.

Thank you so much, Brady!

I picked up a beautiful 14.1" Toshiba on Ebay for $511.  It's a Core Duo so the technology is fine for me but I think I would have preferred a 12.1".  I may sell it and get a smaller one.  It seems alot smaller in "notebook" mode than in tablet mode...  In tablet mode, it just feels bulky.

Laura,

I suggest you work with it for a short while, before trading it in. I have a 12.1 and most of my work is with it as a laptop. The extra screen size would be helpful to me. But maybe thats just me......

My desktop is a 20", so I flop for each regularly. I always have 2 computers running. All webstuff is done on my desktop, all business contracts and email is done on my tablet.

If anyone else is doing the same thing I am, I also suggest downloading www.logmein.com There is a free version available, been using it for years, and IF by chance I left a file, email, or something on my desktop, I can www.LogMeIn.com to my desktop, and email myself a file, while sitting in front of a client. Never have to worry or proclaim, I left the file on my other computer.
