How my buyer lost his finger...

Hello World!

Latest news, hot off the press!:
America is going under. Drowning. Financially doomed. It's time to move to a different country, don't spend another cent in the US and for heavens sake don't buy a home in America.

Okay, we are sick of the bad press already. Let me say that again, "We are sick of the bad press already!"

The media has cut off my buyers trigger finger. In the last week I have had several buyers make the most ridiculous offers on houses that I have ever witnessed. The housing market is going through a major adjustment, but for heavens sake the media has cut off my buyers trigger finger by sucking the life out of buyer confidence. I have buyers making crazy lowball offers on houses because they are afraid the market is doomed and the value of their house will go down the moment they sign the closing docs and drive off the lot.

Congratulations Mr. Media, you are succeeding in scaring buyers and hurting our great countries economy by preaching gloom and doom. How about helping us build the economy by printing articles that are positive and filled with truth. Okay, the truth may be too much for you to handle for right now...I'll accept even a half truth.

The truth is it is a great time to buy. There are great deals in the market now and interest rates are impressive! Let's see you stick that in your printing press!

It doesn't look like they really lost their fingers, but want something for nothing.  I don't know how many times I have had agents say "my clients know this will be the price next year..."  Well then take your chances that you are right and buy the property next year!  But this years prices are this years prices.

Good luck, do not give up.

This is just the reverse of the buyers who were 'waiting for the market to turn' during the boom -- and people said it wouldn't happen.

Jana's right . . . the market NOW is the hand we have been dealt.

And some lowball offers are flying high. Everything's worth a try. I love to get bargains for me and my clients in RE. Send it up the flagpole and see if it flies!

The time to buy is the right time for the individual. In any market.

And Chantal, don't worry, the finger will grow back!  ;)

Even in a market like this, with lots of properties to chose from, I've had more than one buyer that have lost their dream home because they made a ridiculous offer.  The truth is that homes sit there for a year and all of the suden two offers come at the same time!  I advise buyers to not play games with a well presented home, with desirable features, well located, and at a reasonable price.  A buyers market in this case means that TODAY you have a chance with it.

How to make an offer depends on the level of desire and attachment to the property.

I've made really low offers on investment properties with full acceptance that it could pee off the seller and ruin my chances to obtain that property, AND THAT IS FINE. Could walk away at any moment.

With my current primary residence, I made a full price offer right off th top, asking for no concessions. That was MY home and I wouldn't chance losing it for a few bucks.

I agree with everyone...the market will return. Buyers have to deal with the present market. But it wouldn't hurt for the press to publish some truth and help return buyer confidence. We should be getting flooded with 10 times the amount of foreign investors right now. Interest rates are favorable and so is the exchange rate for many foreign countries.

Candice and Chantal -- absolutely right! The mainstream news media has become a terrible representation of what the news is actually like anymore. But bloggers and other grassroots-type online markets are a great place to find and share refreshingly positive REAL news!

Just remember that the reason the media leads what bleeds is because it gets more attention from the public. They're not about truth but about market share.

The public can change that by making a point to view life more positively. What do you think the odds of that happening 'en masse' will be?

Relighting one little pilot light in one pair of eyes at a time, a difference can be made.
