Is your agent picture UGLY?

By: Chantal Gakwaya

I think ladies are the most critical when they see the results of their own picture. I can also see the importance of branding yourself and putting your image on everything you promote.

But seriously, why would you take a cheezy picture with a digital camera when your hair is all messed up, you look like you just woke up and post this same picture on your company website and marketing materials?

I'm not talking about how pretty or ugly people are...I'm talking about the quality of the photo and the care taken to look as good as we possibly can in our photos. After all, chances are your broker is going to post this picture on his website for the general public to see.

What does this say about you when you post an ugly photo?

I wonder if the ones with bad personal photos are the same ones with the horrible listing photos . . .

Candace, that's a cute picture of you and Luna!

Taking a photo with a digital camera or a personal camera is not the issue...I'm talking about the ones with bad shadowing in the background, messed up hair...the lot. I've witnessed some shocking ones. Recently I saw a guy who blinked during the photo and STILL posted it on the website for the world to see.

I like your photo, too, Bill.  Heck, my mom took my photo!  She'd break my arm if I changed it out!

Chantal, are you going to get a new photo?  Is that what this is about?  Your hair doesn't look that messy.   :)

My mom hates my photo (I'm not even joking).

Perhaps this is a sign I should change it?

My picture is just old...It is one of the best pictures I've ever taken, though.  I was at an event and asked someone to take my pic next to the sign.  This is the result.  I'm about 3 years older now and my hair is a different color.  Think people will notice?

Chantal, I can't help it, that is why I have my picture taken with Darcy!  I guess I see where you are going.  In our area the big thing was the glamour shot photography for your business photos.  I didn't think that was a good thing, you would go to a Board function and think wait she doesn't look anything like her picture, she isn't wearing a feather boa and their isn't a glamorous mist surrounding her.  She looks like a normal person.  Just my own pet peeve.  Unlike my beautiful wife, I can't help it if my photo is ugly;).

Some of my clients have said " You look much younger in person" others have said "You are shorter than I thought" I can't complain, we usually have a chuckle so we are more relaxed.

Whatever - as long as I am selling and my pic doesn't actually scare anyone - this is as good as it gets LOL!

At the risk of sounding like a suck-up...everyone's picture above looks wonderful.

Although Tommy...you do look a little ugly in that picture. Skinny legs with a big body...and using a razor wouldn't hurt you any.

Chantel, your photo is great.

However, I would rather see a digital natural photo than some of the elaborate glamour shots. So fake looking.

Yes, Karen. Actors' headshots MUST be CURRENT. 6 months old is a lifetime! If an actor doesn't resemble the picture a casting director chooses, his/her time just got wasted. And time is money. That actor won't be used again, and their agent won't be taken seriously next time.

I love beautiful portrait photos, but if they're too airbrushed or filmy I fear it may send the wrong message to the public as to credibility.

I change pic twice a year. Me and Lunie will be updating in January! She's already begun to negotiate with me as to terms. She's a great model but so demanding . . . LOL
