Bounce Rates and Registrations

By: Chantal Gakwaya

Just thought I'd share something that I have been testing out. Recently I added a voice (wave) file to one of my website pages as a test. As cheezy as it sounds, the results have been quite amazing. My bounce rates have reduced by around 40% and my registrations to that page have increased by three times what they used to be.

I'm now going to add some more wave files to my site to see if I can get a better measure of these results. Has anyone else here tried this?

Hi Gloria. No software needed, just a microphone and your computer. The recording I've been testing is here:

It doesn't work with Firefox, because I had to host the recording on another server and firefox blocks it.

All you need to do is put in an embed html label into your website and it will point to where you have stored the file.

If you go to the p2 manual and search recordings they show you how to write the code for your website. It is pretty simple once you have done it.

Thanks Chantal,

Wonderful to put a voice with that face!

I use a thing called Sitepal. It is a talking head, animation that I record a one minute message using my voice. It is really cheap, I pay $10 a month for 12 scenes. Developers call this noise and tell you it will increase the number of visitors that bounce. I do not agree.  The only down side is if they have their sound up too high when the page loads, that is annoying.  The first site I ever heard it on, that is what happened, but even though I was startled and was scrambling to find the volume, I was still interested because it was unique.  So I adjusted the volume and refreshed the page so I could hear it all.

I read on the PPP site that Gene told us about that an estimated 20% will have the volume to off.  The talking head might tip them off that they should turn it up. Just a thought...

Troy that is a good idea with the talking head. I tried to load a play, stop and pause button through a Java app, but unfortunately it wasn't easy to add to the P2 site for me.

Gloria, no I am from Rwanda - French is my second language.
