I was shocked to find out that only 4% of real estate agents have and use a blog (information found in Realtor magazines latest addition).

Just wanted to share this small number with the rest of you.  Made me feel accomplished and a grade above the rest.

Why do you blog?  Is it just because of your SEO standings?  Do you like the time you spend telling the world about your business and how you feel?

If blogs did not help your website in anyway would you still participate?

Blog your true feelings today.

Thanks, Christina

Only 4% have and use a blog.... and I suspect 80% of those using one don't realize the full power of a blog....

Why do I blog? Because it's there? I started blogging because I love to write, and a blog is the perfect outlet for that.

A blog is *the best* way to display your personality on the Internet. As such, that makes it a powerful prospecting tool. It's also great for SEO.

But I'd blog even without all that. I can't begin to estimate how much I've *learned* by blogging. Researching posts, "talking" to people, and reading other blogs -- are are fabulous ways to learn. If I can share some of that knowledge with my peers and real estate consumers, all the better...

I agree.  I was so shocked at that number.  My husband said it sounds right b/c many agents really don't use this as a main profession.

I am not surprised at this number. It does mean that we are ahead of the curve.

At the bottom of the curve I see agents that are guilty of the following;

We have a great email system provide by The Toronto Real Estate Board. We have agents in our office that never opened their email in 6 years. They just don't know how. How many leads have they missed?

We have agents that do not have their own personnal computers at the office or at home. They rely on the office computer.

These are the same agents that when they list a million dollar lakefront property they take ONE outside photo only cause they are either too cheap or to lazy to buy a digital camera.

Yes we are ahead of the curve.

Understand the Pareto principle or the 80/20 rule. From wikipedia:

Then take 20% of the 20% and you have 4%. That's the real number.

Terry I agree.  I am always shocked when LA take even 3 photos of a property.  Our MLS in Houston I believe requires 10 depending on property type.  I always post 10.

Howard good take on this one.

I guess we should also discuss the % of actual working agents.  I have a friend who is new to real estate.  She made about $40 K doing it part time her first year.  She also helps her husband with his dr. offices. She was kind of disappointed.  I thought she did great in comparison to what I have heard and seen from others.
