Marketing RE on e-Bay

By: Bill Thompson, REALTOR®

Does anyone here market real estate on e-Bay. I saw something from Vance saying he does this. In fact I think he said it was one of his 6 "outside the box" ideas for marketing. Have any of you had success with this?

Bill - I've only marketed one property on EBay.  It's a unique property that's got special zoning, being run as a B&B now, but also zoned SFR & MFR - 6 bed/6ba

The ad cost me a little over $150 for 30 days.  I got a TON of hits on Ebay, which generated quite a few hits to my website and also quite a bit of email from insurance & mortgage people, tire kickers, people wanting creative financing, etc.

Property didn't sell.  I'm not sure Ebay is the best bang for buck, but it does get seen.

Hi Bill

Well since that that story in the Florida the e bay guy, I had sold a riverfront condo in Titusville, actually they are on my site still, I also sold that from e bay $594,900 is what it sold for with 3% hit on it there have been some smaller new deals also condo conversions and Centex deal..

At any rate e bay for just $150 bucks for 30 days is the best deal out there and plays world wide 24/7 for 30 days.

I have at times copy and pasted my whole front page of my Point 2 site and let that fly.

I do mostly new stuff anyway and pick up some odd balls along the way.

Since that e bay story I have had agents call write etc and ask me how it worked,, believe me its works just fine.

I only had one outside the box idea,, # 3 in the link below the rest was other Realtors way of advertising, the guy with the bus,got it On!!Now

You can not go wrong for $150 bucks

No, I haven't tried it but I know agents who have with no success.

It could have been the listing was overpriced...which is usually the problem anyway.

Oh I forgot something..

From what I have seen with real estate on e bay is this..

Lets take Florida and visit Georgia and Connecticut..

Now go to e bay and visit each states real estate section ok.

What you have just seen is that Florida leads the pack with many properties for sale on e bay,, GA and Ct for the most part is dead.

If you live in a state that does not have much exposure on e bay real estate neither will you....Unfortunately.

As in Connecticut or the New England states most of them will hit Florida as you have seen e bay is loaded with Florida properties..

Atlanta gets many relo's and Floridians moving out in droves, to escape the high home insurance and property taxes..

California, Arizona  are also what I call hot lead states, Las Vegas is hot also.

I have put a GA property on e bay and along with the other( 9) that's it 9 homes  I got Nada..

So as Dan said not much luck in Connecticut, your right Dan.

I do know one thing Dan when winter hits the northeast the calls from up there are unbelievable and want to move to FL,, for the most part they suffer from cabin fever and want to move, since its summer there are no calls ha ha .. it happens every year..

Enjoy your day

Vance

I've thought about it a lot especially after reading couple of Vance's posts but I don't think we are there yet. We are somewhere between Connecticut and Georgia when it comes to the number of eBay real estate listings, so I just don't know how much traffic and chance for success would it have. Maybe we should suggest to eBay they should lower the ad prices to get their RE section more successful, what do you think?

To get the best exposure, you may want to copy and past you front page of your web site, this way you have a wide area of coverage for those who surf to view, listings, get info, see who what you are all about,

Your web site menu will also show up!! of course check out some homes in those states that have done there thing,  you will see what I mean.

Remember with around 194 million world wide members, and with millions of shoppers on e bay everyday  with a 24 hour around the clock advertising of your listing or web site for the would world to see, cost less then if you ran a add in your major newspaper just for a weekend!!

The weekend newspaper shelf life is for that weekend, the Real Estate books get stale quick and you may already know that a good majority of homes have been sold... Harmon Homes is a good example of that and are still in these books just to get leads..

With your e Bay add you can edit it all day long for 30 days !! look at it from this point of view.........Just  5  BUCKS A DAY you can have the whole world almost.....

Still trying to catch up here!

Great thread Bill.  I've been wondering the same myself.  When it first became available in syndication, I gave it a shot.  Nuthin'.  I just went back just to search for real estate in MA (anywhere) and found some timeshare but really nothing else.  I may try syndication again just to see what happens but I don't think I'd pay additional money.  Doesn't seem like it would reach too many people for me.  Craigslist, on the other hand seems to generate a lot of traffic for me.
