RE Zoning Ordinances

By: Bill Thompson, REALTOR®
Thursday, July 26, 2007 10:11 AM

Zoning Ordinances are an important issue in RE, especially commercial transactions. We all know this since we are all RE professionals. There are other zoning issues to consider however. As of last night, Jacquelyn has informed us that this is not the "zone" for nonRE discussion. This is zoned for professional RE discussions only. I actually think she is quite right and thus, I for one will pledge to make all future REliberation blog posts adhere to this standard, as I have attempted to do here. Are you with me friends?

I will respond/post to threads containing RE content in kind.  I find it impossible, however, to always relate RE to threads that I start...I'm posting a thread on AR about weeds in my county and how to get rid of them in a green way.  Is that RE related?  I must be ADD because I find it difficult to stay ON TOPIC ALL OF THE TIME!

Getting rid of weeds is good curb appeal which helps sell houses.

Fortunately, many of the developers are viewing this as a worthy challenge, and are taking steps to correct.

Speaking of Uban Sprawl. I was reading an article in the Boston Magazine about a pretty cool development/concept. Check it out: http://nouvelleatnatick.com/ it is only about 30 minutes from Boston, but lends to a city lifestyle at more affordable costs.

I also pledge to keep it RE or related, but sometimes may go off track.

Zoning Ordinances ARE very necessary or it would be a free-for-all. I think we can continue to do business and mix in a little pleasure without offending anyone. I mean I can, I don't know about the rest of you. lol

However, if I am expected to dot every i and cross every t and spell right, I might be found, in real estate terms to be "pending".

Yes, in the long run zoning ordinances help keep property values high, if zoned properly of course.

I think what the moderator are doing IS a good thing.  I have found that our community has been diluted for the past 30 days or so.  I was noticing that there were less and less post on the forum just everybody chatting on the delete thread.

So with that said, I am happy to have this forum defined as a Real Estate Forum.

Hopefully, there enough of those who feel the way you do who will start posting, Joe.  Otherwise, there will be nothing to read.

I did not read the delete thread more than once.  It was not what I was looking for.  But since it was initiated, I had noticed a delcine in the Real Estate Postings.

When I visited RELIb each day, I read the new posts, looked over my watch list for any new entries and then went to the Delete thread to relax with friends. And just like friends do, we chatted about a lot of different things, some real estate and some personal. The nice thing about the Delete thread was we could change the subject at random without feeling like we were hijacking someones thread. That's the way conversations go, though, not so structured. Sure, I will still read new threads on RElib but will miss some of the shoot-from-the-hip responses that went on in the Delete thread.

I agree with Gene. We have all become friends here and enjoyed visiting with each other as much as reading the posts. We are all in the same boat, just different areas of the country, this place just brought us all together.

Thank you so much for your professionalism today friends. There is always the "coffee shop" in the message board for kicking back and relaxing with a cup of java and friends.

Maybe we should all just set up an IM account. My son loved it until I removed the home computer(that's a long story). Anyway, I think they pop up on the corner of the screen whenever someone types in a new reply.I think you must be invited to join in a discussion by the one who starts the IM. And, the way I understand it, the contents cannot be copied and pasted (edited) and it deletes at the end of the session.
