Fear Not!

By: Bill Thompson, REALTOR®

"We have nothing to fear, but fear itself!"

Let's not be guilty of overreacting to recent news from P2. If everyone stays calm and waits this thing out I bet little will change  on our end of this venture. If numerous members panic and abandon ship, then things might indeed change, but I see no reason for that to happen.

I always caution clients I am working with not to panic when what seems like bad news comes in from the other side in a transaction. I saved a deal that almost went bad by staying calm just recently. I am sure many of you could tell similar stories.

I was discussing the subject of fear today at lunch with a colleague. It is a driving force in a lot of our business in both a positive and negative way. I remember when people feared they would be left out and rushed to purchases homes, some time two or three at a time in hopes of flipping and turning a hefty profit. That was followed by the fear of foreclosure when the market went in the wrong direction. On the other hand a person that waits today may find that there hopes of catching the bottom has turned into the fear that they have missed it! Fear is a dangerous thing when left unchecked!

Rationale people way the facts, analysis the projected outcome and set their plans accordingly. I would be disappointed if Point2 did not push through this change but I certainly would not use the term fear. I have enjoyed a good deal of business from my Point2 website for several years and it would be missed but like all things, it is replaceable. I don’t believe that the loss of talented people changes things that much unless they were so unique that there are only 6-7 of them in the entire work force. If there are others available with similar or greater talent then the outlook is pretty bright.

New people, new ideas, seems to me to be a positive that I can wrap my arms around. So if I am going to fear something, I guess I will fear what I am going to owe the government next year in taxes. That is a permitted fear and with elections a year away, it is one that strikes enough fear in me, that I have no fear left for anything else!

Thanks for the perspective, Bill.

Makes for interesting times, that's for sure.

Almost as exciting as the week they switched our coffee to Starbucks, only with fewer vibrating programmers.

Jay sez: I *know* there are! It's a wickedly talented and dedicated group up there. (and I feel safe saying "up there" 'cause I doubt anyone reading this lives NORTH of Saskatoon! The possible exception being those located in Alaska or the Yukon. And Santa of course.)
