Personal Real Estate Promotion

Did you know that our potential clients are exposed to OVER 3000 marketing messages PER DAY? Everyday there are commercials for Century 21, Remax, Executive Realty, and many more.  Realtors are advertising on the radio (competing with the big chains, etc.). In addition to the big real estate companies, there are commercials for Homegain, HouseValues, etc. that sell us leads.

Five years ago while sitting in real estate school, I felt there was no way of making it in the real estate business. How could there ever be enough business for all these agents out there trying to get the same business? I quickly learned that people are always going to buy and sell and that the trick was to learn how to effectivley market MYSELF.

I read "Your marketing strategy should be as unique as you are. NO ONE ELSE DOES WHAT YOU DO IN THE WAY THAT YOU DO IT! Communicating this to the right people at the right time takes imagination"

I found my unique self and love sharing it with my community.  What's yours? How do you promote yourself in our crowded marketplace? How to you stay "Top of Mind" to the people in your community?

I read in an article not too long ago of how important our picture is for exposure.  So my picture is everywhere I can put it (i.e. magnets on my car, business cards put in local businesses, pirnt ads, letters I send out, postcards, etc.).

The second piece is remembering the purpose I am in this career.  Many will say, "to make money".  Yes, money is important, but my business purpose is to make Real Estate an exciting and memorable experience for customers.  That's what drives everything I do.  For example, stress and lack of communication are two of the biggest complaints from Real Estate customers.  So I use the tools available the best I can to eleiminate those two issues.  My goal is to have every customer say, "Wow!  This has been really easy."

Thanks for this post.  It's a wonderful topic.

I would go the opposite way.  Headshots of agents are just exactly what every other agent does out there and unless you are just incredibly attractive or on the other end of the scale, horribly ugly, then getting it to STICK is very difficult.

Marketing is more than a headshot.  It's building a brand that is consistent with COLOR, IMAGE and MESSAGE.  If you're in real estate for YOU, then I agree, you're the centerpoint.  If you're in real estate for your client, then maybe it's time to think outside the box and center on THEM! :)

(just a thought)

Ron, I agree that we are in this business for the client.  The client is my #1 goal.

This topic is how to generate those clients by promoting yourself - to be top of mind when someone thinks real estate.

In order to market effectivley, you have to develop your USP (Unique Selling Position) Why would anyone want to do business with you? How do you convey that to the general public?

The same rule applies to marketing a clients home - what's the USP of that house - by establishing that, then we can create a marketing plan just for that property.
