Doesn't anyone think for themselves these days?

I'm reading through a lot of these blogs lately and thinking to myself,  I read something just like that recently.  Then I figure out where and realize that the entire blog post is a copy of something off of another site or a magazine.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is PLAGIARISM.  It's not cool. It's not funny and most of all it can end you in some trouble!  Blogs allow us to get to know the writer...a chance to do more than read what you are about on your website and really see the person behind the website.  When you see that people have blatantly stolen copyrighted material (and make no mistakes, if it's published to the web or in a magazine it IS copyrighted) it makes you wonder about the person behind the blog!

Remember, original and relevant rule the day. THEFT of intellectual property (regardless of where you got it, unless you give proper credit and have permission) is a big NO-NO!Crying

Hi Ron,

What you say is to true, but many people just do not "get it".  They are fixed on the idea that they can have great content without the work.  I think they believe that a blog is a low maintenance marketing machine.  Sometimes I wish it was, but it tends to be a lot of work just like most marketing that works.  Real Estate Blogs are just another case where people who say that being a REALTOR® is easy money just shows how little they know about what it takes to be a successful REALTOR®.

Not that it is exceptionally hard, but there is a lot more work than most people see.

Wow and yes.  You know I have seen much of that with many of these blogging sites.

There is some terrific information out there and if one wants to repeat something that someone else said in their own blog, they must remember to source where the information came from and add to it.  Not just repeat it nearly line for line.  Of course one can get an idea from someone about how they report their market and do a similar type of thing for their own market, but still people really need  to be careful even when doing this to a: perhaps ask for permission or b: to use this information as a starting point, rather than copying it.

Yes, no matter what others say:  Real Estate is hard work, fulfilling work, and serious work that can be scary sometimes.  You deal with peoples lives and hard earned money!  Take OUR profession seriously by using professionalsim and judgement.

Ron:  I hear ya.  Of course, you don't mean my posts....

You know Ron, based on the calibre of your thoughts and passions, I am beginning to think you must have been a RE/MAX agent in another life...

Or maybe that life is yet to come?

Anyway....  Blog On!

and for everybody else....  BE ORIGINAL or attribute the post

Well said, Ron.

Your testimony reveals that you ride high on principles and values.  Hence, the essentials for an honest and successful Realtor.

I hope Andrew and all of you will not chastiseme for not incorporating the "®" gizmo at the tail end of Realtor.  I don't do it either for Coca Cola, Pepsi, Kleenex, Xerox, Dell, Micro Soft, et all.

Attribution keeps getting mentioned.  It is still against the law to copy the work of another, whether you attribute the work to them or not.  Without permission, if you copy my work, CopyScape will find it and you'll hear from me.  Placing my name at the bottom will not make any difference.  Good post.
