Why would anyone advertise in The Real Estate Book?

Just curious about why people would advertise in The Real Estate Book.

As I see it,  they are taking your money to advertise,  putting a site up that competes with you(fastvalues.com), using YOUR listings to draw in the consumer and then selling leads back to agents that YOU paid to generate with your advertising dollars?

So Why?

To satisfy sellers.  I don't subscribe to that particular book, second thought it could be the same, the guys I use actually send me alot of contacts from their website.

There are lots of ways to satisfy sellers...this particular one is set up to compete with you, so again, my question would simply be why play?

Ron, in our area, we have several book options available, but this is the only one where we get actually get calls off of the ads.  Their distribution is better, and the small size fits nicely in a purse.

It is not cool that they are competing with us, though.  The business is changing and we need to stay ahead of the rats.  Better the RE book than Zillow?

Ron,

I used to sell for The Real Estate Book. Houston market. I am now in San Antonio. Are you sure they are selling leads in your area? When I worked for them, they gave the leads to the advertisers, split evenly.

The Realtors did get results. I know now that the internet has become more powerful it is not as much, but sometimes the internet can get overwhelming for folks searching and ending up at sites that make you register and those full color photos sure look nice. And yes, the sellers do like them. I am not advertising in any of the magazines right now.  I have been considering but so far getting enough leads with Point 2. I would love to hear from others on their opinions.

I also feel another reason folks advertise in the full color magazines is to be recognized in the community, show off your listings and your agent mug. Often when sellers first list, they have not been searching the internet like buyers do. It is public awareness, how many times they have seen your sign, face, and name.

Ron,

We have never been charged for a lead from The Real Estate Book.  They email them either to the office (if office pays for pages) or directly to agent.

Our office dropped the RE Book and Homes and Land in favor of more intensive online advertising, after all, almost 4 out of 5 buyers are now searching online for homes and that is what we are telling our sellers. 5 stars, of course.

I've had Realestatebook since last May ... the only print advertising I am doing on a regular basis ... and the only print advertising that has ever brought me any leads. The online leads that I get are part of my subscription ... I don't pay anything extra for these. ... and sellers recognize the book and like the idea of advertising in it.

Lets qualify....

The leads that might be coming from the Fastvalues feature would probably be seller leads.  We have not gotten any seller leads from the RE book.  Is anyone here getting seller leads?

I use the RE Book and I have always been given the leads free. I have also got several clients from the calls off the ads. I have a buyer under contract now from the ads and working with a couple more. They didn't see it on the internet but in the book and called me. It's worth the money when I'm getting leads from it.

Ron,

Any print advertising I do is to please sellers (outside of flyers) and reach that small population that is not yet on the Internet.  I see very little return on print advertising and I do not use the RE Book at all. I do use the Newspaper and select magazines.  I get the best response on land when I put it in local neighborhood papers.

Shelly & David, RealEstateBook in our area also has a limited number of seller leads ... I was getting quite a few last year, this year has been quite slow when it comes to these leads ... most of them are long term but with the drip e-mail campaigns we have as part of our P2 sites, I just let them "grow"

Ron - I only stopped by to give your 3 1/2 Stars a boost since you are feeling kinda' down.  I was only able to push it to a 4-Star.

Thanks Gene...and thanks to all who helped shed some light on something I must have misunderstood.  I was looking through that book (first time) and I saw that website and my first thought was, "why would they let a company like that buy advertising in this book, paid for by agents?"   Then I got to looking at where the leads went and saw it was owned by the magazine and I assumed the worst, I guess...shows me what to assume! :(

At $6,000/Year I asked the rep from RE Book that just three days ago as I said, and I quote myself "I'm offended by that price!" and thanked him for his time.
