Collaboration, is it going to happen?

By: Ron Tarvin

Well, the collaboration CAN happen, but that is up to the P2 community.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, do a search for COLLABORATION and you'll find the posts on it.

I have not gotten a NEW submission since APRIL 15th, 10 days ago, so I am guessing others do not want to submit.

I have TEN people who have submitted ideas.  It won't be much of an idea think tank with that many people but it still could be usefull.  Perhaps I should put it together as is and just email to the 10 (well, 11 with me) that contributed.  That's not the spirit that I wanted to put this together in, but with all the BRILLIANT real estate minds around here, I would have thought three times that would have submitted their ideas.

Let me know what we should do...it was my hope to get it out this weekend so you can hit the ground in May with it.  If you're one of the ten, you know who you are and you're welcome to speak up here too!

Ron, there seems to be alot of new faces here lately which is very exciting, hopefully we can get some of them to contribute to "the cause" as well. I think I sent a couple of ideas. Hope I did, can't remember now....yes, I did.

I think the reason for not much response is that this is a spontaneous endeavor and you are trying to give it a formal structure.  Just keep posting ideas as the occur and it will work the way it is set up to work.  When you expect too much structure and give people deadlines they don't respond.

And I'm just the opposite, Mark.  Give me a timeline/deadline and I'm rarely if ever late!

Personally, I'd rather not do this project...it's going to take MY time to do it, but I thought it was a very good way to give back to the P2 community.

I didn't ask for a dissertation, just an explanation of a couple of ideas agents are using and seeing results from in any agent related category they choose and mail it in...you're really the first voice against it that I've encountered although maybe by NOT sending in stuff, I'm being told to let it go as well...who knows...maybe there is some stat I can derive to support my theory.

I am not against it.  You have entirely misinterpreted my comment.  I am not criticizing you and I am the same way with deadlines as you are.  I am ultra organized.  I am only giving you my opinion as to why you didn't get the large response you were expecting.

Ron, I think it is great. Didn't know you were doing it since I only started recently looking at the blog. I looked at your earlier post and liked Lonn's FSBO letter. If that's the kind of stuff you are looking for I can't wait to see it published.

My best COLLABORATION effort is the joint agency caravan I've put together in my community. It beats any Broker Open House deal, was not my sole idea, and gets results.

Funny! I never asked for any credit and I never got any. The caravan has been so successful that it has now spread to three other neighboring communities. I said funny? Yeah, the other communities it spread to -- the other agents all took all the credit -- as if they came up with all on their own.

At least I acknowledge I stole the idea from someone - just don't know who or where.

Ron, I think the community has responded.  It might be a wimpy response, but it looks like it is what it is.

Maybe everyone thinks that these ideas need to be "original."  I'm not going back to find your original post on this, but I don't remember that as a requirement.  The ideas just need to work.

Since I sent you my favorites, I have cooked up a new one that ties those ideas together and makes them potentially very productive.  Since we've had such a light response, though, I'm not sure I want to part with it (!)

Now, where's that smiley when I need it?

We have a few more ideas that rolled in and hopefully, we'll have a few more come in.  Then I'll put it together and see how to distribute it...probably a PDF download on my site or something...

I came across this late (last time), but thought it was such a great idea, I sat down and did some thinking (scary, me thinking) then picked a topic.  Open Houses.  I am sure many are thinking their ideas might not be original, but little are.  We just need to read them and our minds start spinning on how to make that idea work for me!  So new or old, send Ron 1 idea.  Just like the Caravan idea that Gregory put out.

So maybe people need ideas to get started?  Where do you find buyers?  Where do you advertise your listings?  Do you have an interesting way to advertise?  How do you market you?  What do you do for Open houses?  What free or inexpensive tools (newsletters, flyers, brochures, feedback, emails, 1-800 numbers...) do you use?  Do you have any interesting farm material you would like to share?  Any cold calling tips?  What pages on your website get the most hits and why?  Do you use a listing presentation, what kind?  Where did you get yours?  Do you use scrips, do you have some to share? How do you increase your sphere of influnence?  How do you get referrals?

How am I doing Ron?   Ok I will shut up now...

Jana
