What's the difference?

By: Ron Tarvin
Friday, August 24, 2007 12:14 PM

Point2Agent offers three levels of membership.  Standard, Professional and Premium.  It often comes up what is the difference between the two PAY versions and here is a post that I posted to the message board.  I think it pretty much covers all the differences between the Professional and the Premium versions:

First off, it's $70 more, not $85 (at least by the math I've learned ($119.95-49.95).

1. You get UNLIMITED pages to add to your site. This is critical to building a site that does well with the search engines. Not only with SEO for main keywords but also with minor keywords which can, when done right, bring in much more traffic than the more compettitive main key words like ANYTOWN REAL ESTATE.

2. You get the ability to sell banner advertising on your site. This COULD be a big deal, depending on how much traffic you get (see #1 above about traffic). I've had a few local businesses ask if they could BUY advertising on my site. I've never actually acted on it, but as a premium member, it's another potential income stream.

3. Unlimited POP3 Email accounts vs 3 for Professional.

4. Address groups for HTML emails 1000/group vs 250 for Professional.

5. Maybe relatively minor to most AGENTS (not saying for Brokers) but private list attachments for Premium Members.

6. 1 free spotlight ad per month. This is a $25 value and will do a couple of things. It will get that listing more exposure and it will help to INCREASE traffic to your site, thus helping with #1 and #2 above.

7. Text messages a day is 15 for premium. If you have a site that is not very active, and not a lot of people signing up, then only 5 text messages might be enough per day. Otherwise, the added text messages allow you to respond to visitors IMMEDIATELY.

8. More exposure in SELLING AREAS for referrals for Premium than Professional. Depending on YOUR area, this might or might not be important.

9. As mentioned before, the two free neighborhoods for life. Depending on what you do with them, this could be worth the price of the upgrade all by itself considering similar "NEIGHBORHOOD" sites can run $50/month each through other companies.

10. 300 Third level domains vs 100 with professional. This allows you to set up pages with unique names and advertise many different ways. Again, depending on how you use this, 100 might be enough or 300 might be better!

11. Point2 Advisory council and The Point magazine. The print version of the magazine is really cool and having a say in what gets instituted with P2 is nice too. It's great to have a voice in such a forward thinking company.

In a nutshell, there are the differences between PROFESSIONAL and PREMIUM for an extra $70 month. If you see value in it, then it might be time to upgrade. If not, then it might be time to stay where you are. If you have no idea what I just said about all this website goblety-gook, maybe it's time to find a new business!

(that last line was COMPLETELY tongue-in-cheek!)

Thanks Ron.  I don't know if it is time for me to upgrade as I am still working on all the pages I get with professional.  I do know that my broker is not using it to the fullest.

Where are all these great bloggers that don't want to post here because "here" is so bad? I am growing weary of the occasional snide remarks about this place. I, for one, will be glad to quit posting for awhile so these bloggers can come in and show us their stuff. I certainly am not the one who have you one star, but whoever did it doesn't represent Relib, it was just their opinion, I guess. Get over it.

I agree with Mike.  If the expectation is that people only click 5 stars then of what value are the stars to begin with?  I would think that a fear of being called a 'putz' would be more restraining than the fear of having someone give only one star.

Personally, I'm a bit surprised that this blog is being left on Relib.  It seems like one that belongs in the forums to me.  Or were you hoping to win the $50 by kissing a little butt. LOL (I'm just kidding you, Ron.)

You make some good points.

Posts like the one by Mike and Tim are getting so common here that RElib is losing it's lustre.

Really Lonn?  You are forever crying foul because you feel that you have been personally attacked.  So am I to understand, now, that it is okay for people to call you a putz?  Just checking....... what are your rules as regards the names we are allowed to call each other in order to keep the lustre at his peak?

Actually, I was merely making an observation regarding the awarding of stars and my surprise that this post was left on relib.  My last comment was meant in good nature as a friendly guy-to-guy joke.  I enjoy Ron's posts and had earlier stated so on his other post regarding the mortgage industry.

You see, Lonn, some adults are able to play a bit while we work.  Good natured ribbing and banter helps ease the stresses that we so often encounter in our daily business.  Laugh a little... you might enjoy it.

Thanks for the post Ron, good info. As for the putz, we are surrounded, can't fix that. The lustre? Actually it has taken a while to figure out who we can and can't joke with. I think the bulk of us have settled to a comfort zone of information sharing and friendliness. I think this place is great.

I don't make the rules here, but Name calling is never acceptable for professionals when PUBLISHING for all of time about other professionals.

I did not call anybody a Putz and don't recall saying it was ok to do so.

Also, did you or did you not basically say, to Ron....

"This post does not belong here on Relib but belongs in the forums" and "You're a butkisser..."

Isn't this kind of post judmental?

You call it a "friendly guy to guy joke".  Maybe, in the bar, after hours, but a different standard applies to the PUBLISHED word.

Mr. Dugan, you said, "Posts like the one by Mike and Tim are getting so common here that RElib is losing it's lustre."

Mike posts wonderfully intelligent and popular posts which are highly regarded by the community and have won the contest on several occasions. Tim posts less but makes very astute comments.

Neither is causing Reliberation to lose their lustre. I suggest that it is you who is causing the lack of lustre and the few stars and very few positive comments you receive to your posts are demonstratable proof.

And while you might like to haul out your statistics about the number of comments you receive, since you generally make a minimum of 3,4 or 5 consecutive comments and in one post, I remember at one point almost 33% of all comments were made by you, you have no right to make such statements as quoted above.

Again Ron, thank you for the post.  So many informational post regarding P2 do get kicked to the curb.  I am glad this one stayed up long enough for me to see it.  It is sometimes hard to find the information you are looking for in the message boards.  I rarely go there anymore.  I don't think we are ready for the all the bells and whistles, but I really do appreciate you letting me know what is in store.  If I had know all the differences between Standard and Professional we probably would have updated long before we did.

As far as the Stars - we have pretty much learned to ignore them.  Even if someone gives you 5 there seems to be someone who either doesn't think the blogs is worth it or takes pleasure in stealing em!  Don't take offense.  You will be able to tell if people like what you have said from the comments.

Welcome back,

Simple observation:  Are you aware of the TWO double standard your comment puts forward?

FIRST You find it to be OK for you to comment about my comment, but it's not ok for me to comment about somebody else's comment?

SECOND, you can attack me for not commenting on the topic, but you did not comment on the topic.

Please....  nevermind...  Sorry to ask so much of this cru.

Mr Arnoff:

I agree that Mike Farmer does make some wonderfully intelligent and popular posts.  He is a real thinker.  I admire that.  But when he demonstrated extreme insensitivity toward a member who was returning after quite a long absence, then I don't admire the kind of post.  He "...GET OVER IT" when somebody complained about low star ranking, and name calling.  That kind of show of insensitify and that kind of comment does not qualify for the praise you just shared.  Even great hitters can hot foul balls.

Likewise, Tim and Susan may often post ASTUTELY.  But it was not one of those astute posts when they said:  "...Personally, I'm a bit surprised that this blog is being left on Relib.  It seems like one that belongs in the forums to me.  Or were you hoping to win the $50 by kissing a little butt"...  That appears to be judgmental and I may say so if I wish.

So, Mr. Arnoff, I do indeed have a right to observe factually and sensitively (with relib mission in mind) anything I want to observe about these kind of comments.

But thank you for choosing once again to make an appearance on a thread - not to add to our wisdom - but merely to bash me.  This harassment toward me is becoming quite regular with you and cannot be hidden unless you start deleting past posts.

BTW:  I agree with Ron that somebody is making it a personal mission to hurt feelings by rating posts at one star, and that this behavior does indeed put a damper on the desire of a blogger to contribute to the blogosphere from this particular site...

So there we are, back on topic :)

The interesting thing to me, is that if Mr. Tarvin was upset with either Mr. Farmer or Mr. Fennell, then wouldn't Mr. Tarvin be a big enough Man to defend himself?  Why do you feel that it is your mission or job or whatever to "jump in?"  Inquiring minds want to know....

Oh, and I am quite aware that I have jumped topic.

I guess my comment about the 1 star person being a putz was uncalled for.  However, only the person that did it knows who I am addressing so I'm not calling anyone in particular that name in front of the group.

It was hurtful. This post was made and within about 3 minutes and only 3 views, someone thought they would rank it a 1 out of five, probably because it had my name on it.  I wasn't going to put it here but since I put it on the message board and Suzanne thought it worthy to put in other places, I posted here to help people know if they NEED to upgrade.

I leave it up to the P2 powers that be...if this is more trouble than it's worth, remove the post.   I certainly didn't mean to post to create problems.

Oh and for the record, I don't really care what the post gets rated if it's an honest rating...but based on the speed with which the rating appeared it just didn't seem justified.  People who are mean just for the sake of being mean....well, let's just say, I don't get it.

Are you serious???  You *constantly* cry foul, and accuse people of making "personal attacks".  Then YOU make a comment like, ""Posts like the one by Mike and Tim are getting so common here that RElib is losing it's lustre."

So apparently it's OK for YOU to make attacks, but no one else.

That's the definition of a double standard.

I was posting in DIRECT RESPONSE to the direction that Ron (who started a nice topic) had taken topic.  It was Ron who correctly observed that others had been mean spirited.  Observation is not an attack.  Agreeing with the one who started the topic is not an attack.

I support Ron and agree with him that some comments are hurtful.

I have said all I can say, and am done with this.

Ron, I just want to make sure that YOU know that my remarks were not intended the way Lonn interpreted them.  I was NOT saying that I thought the post belonged on the message boards.  I merely thought it was the TYPE of post that the moderators usually move there.

My butt-kissing remark was intended as a man to man joke and I stated so within my remark just to make sure you (and everyone else) understood that.  (Apparently some did not understand.)

As far as the name-calling is concerned, I think that you may have crossed the line on that one but, hey... who hasn't crossed the line from time to time?  My main 'point' as regards that was in reference to the 'stars ranking' utilized here.

Not everyone is going to like every post... so what?!  What does it matter 'how long' the post was there before someone read it and thought it was 'one star' quality?  That is that persons 'opinion'.  Does that make them mean-spirited or a putz?  I don't think so.  What if they had given 3 stars?  Or 5 stars?  Would they still be a putz for having done so early on?  Again, I don't think so... heck, for all you or I know, the person actually meant to give 5 stars and something went wrong... for instance, when the batteries get low on my mouse, I can click it and then move the cursor and the 'response' on the screen is behind the actual click.  My point is that when we enter a public blogging arena we are well-served by having 'thick skin'.

Yes, and my point was in relation to the "and you wonder why people don't want to post on here" comment.

I didn't know there was a problem with people not wanting to post here. It seems like quite a few do post here. If it is because sometimes one star is posted, that seems like something insignificant and anyone not wanting to post here for that type of reason is probably going to find a thousand reasons to get upset -- thus, my "get over it" comment. I would expect you to tell me the same thing.

If there is an underlying problem you think is keeping more people from postng here, that you have knowledge of, I'm sure the group could benefit from the criticism.

We actually have a name for the "One Star Bandit." We have never figured out who it is, but someone enjoys jmessing with people.

I think you can call the "one star bandit" a putz if want to Ron!  I have never figured out what the joke was.  It seems very silly to me.  Maybe it is someone who thinks they can only pick one star because they are the first to read?  As far as someone doing that because it is you blogging, I don't get that either.  Long before I finally got the guts to post, I always read your blogs and appreciated all the clear, concise, information you have shared!  In fact I think it was one of your blogs that I felt comfortable enough to add to!  See you started my blogging, so it is your fault!

Ron, I think it's great information.  Thank you!  I usually don't give stars except to my comprades and only then, cause it's kind of an inside joke.  I never give less than 5 stars when I give them.  I usually get NO stars when I post.  I think 1 star is kind of mean spirited and have likened it to leaving a 1 penny tip to tell the server that their service was poor.  I don't know if this is what our 1 star bandit is trying to say or not.  I'd love to be a mind reader, but I think the responsibility would be just too onerous.
