Hello everybody,

just wanted all of you to know that there's a Google PR Update currently going on.  I just took a look at my home page and it went from PR2 to PR3.  Some of my interior pages got some PR love as well.

Watch your PR and good luck to everyone.

Russell please excuse the dumb question but what is Google PR?  It sounds like something good especially if you move from a PR2 to a PR3.  I guess this is two questions where do you check and see where your PR is on your home page and others.

Thank you,

Jana

PR stands for PageRank.  PR is used by Google only.  The higher your PR is, the more important Google thinks your page is.  To increase your PR, create unique content and link to it.  It's all about inbound one-way links.

To check your PR, install the Google toolbar or just use this link: http://livepr.raketforskning.com/.  It will show you the PR for a specific page across all data centers.

Google update usually lasts a few weeks, which means that all of data centers will be updated during that time.

Just remember, duplicate content is the killer for your PR and your SERPs.

Google PR (Page Rank)

Last year I have created website that got PR 3 after three months, and is still there. As I have read sometime last year somewhere on the Google PR up to PR 5 or more means nada.

So, it is good to go up but untill you get PR 5 or more it means not much, not to GOOGLE, nor to people who know about PR.

Just keep updating your site regularly, don't worry much about PR, but about your visitors. More visitors and regular updates of your site will bring you higher PR sooner or later. :)

Lou,

when your P2 site is created, all of your pages are identical to others.  They're all canned and every new user, has the same text on their pages.

Just imaging when Google is crawling all 124K P2 sites.  All the pages that have not been changed will look as duplicate.

Change at least 30% of your text and you should be just fine.  On one of my pages, I changed about 20% of the text and in about 2 weeks, that page went from Supplemental Index to page 2 in search results.

Just work it.

Yes, Google is a PR10, but think of this.  There are no keywords on the page.  It's all links.

I was just reading how it works.

It appears that the page ranking (PR) is based on total visits by people who have the Google toolbar installed and are sending data to Google about what pages they are visiting. When I enabled the option on my Google toolbar I got a privacy warning that explained that all URLs I visit will be sent to Google and stored on their server.

You want a high PR.  The higher the better.  You want a PR10, although it will be impossible on a real estate agent's site.

I am thinking of changing my name to Google J. McYahoo.

My site would be Google J. McYahoo Realty.

Will that help?

That's a good idea Mike! LOL

It will help only if the people that visit your site have the Google toolbar with the feature enabled that allows Google to track their surfing.

It looks like our url is at PR1 :(  Hey I have links LOL  but not sure how to tell the pages, would those be all the numbers below?  I know I don't have that many pages!  Again I am feeling left behind...  Thank you Russell for the info and the link.  I will check back next week and see if we might not go up a bit.  If not back to the drawing board.
