Google changed PR algorithm... were you affected?

Hello everybody,

not sure if anyone noticed, but Google had just changed how they assign a PageRank to a website.  The update took place a few weeks ago.  Many, many sites got slapped.  Not sure what's going there, but that doesn't sound good.

I also noticed that Reliberation.com lost it's PR as well.  They went from PR4 or PR5 to PR3.  My homepage went from PR3 to PR2.  Many others got hit.  Microsoft.com went from PR10 to PR9.  So did yahoo.com.

I'm not sure if that affects the results within searches, but hopefully they will not be hitting those as well.  My PR dropped, but the SERPs did not change.  If it's only the PR, then I really don't care, but if that affects the site positioning, then we need to find another way to work on our SEO.

Good luck to all.

I wondered about that.

Several of my sites lost a point in PR but still do well in SERP.

Anybody know what they are up to?

We went from PR3 to PR2, noticed Jay's site dropped from PR4 to PR3.

I had read it was another shot across the bow for paid link directories, but I do not beleive that to be the case. I also noticed one of my fellow agent competitors websites go from PR1 to PR2, but is no where to be seen as far as SERP.

Page rank is not as important as search rank, you can still be on page one with a page rank of 2.

Yep  I went from a PR5 to a PR ZERO and have no idea why.  I'd love to find out why.  Google has me confused.  I still rank OK on other engines though.  Sigh.

Google has been doing a "Page Rank update" for the last month or so. MANY sites dropped. Some HUGE ones (ie: Forbes, Washington Post) dropped 2 or 3 spots.

Page Rank (PR) seems to be less and less a factor every day. What matter is where you are in search results. From everything I've read, even sites that got hammered in PR did not drop in SERPs (Search Engine Results Page). Some even went up.

There was much discussion in the SEO blogs about this recent PR activity. Some of it seems to be connecetd to selling paid links, though many many sites with PR drops have never sold links. Some seems to be connected to reciprocal linking. But as with each and every PR update, most changes make no sense and no one seems to know exactly what is going on.

The people most twisted out of shape about a PR drop are the ones with the biggest egos, and the ones with a lot of paid advertising -- many advertisers will only pay a site for an ad if they have some certain PR level (which is incredibly short-sighted on the advertisers part).

Bottom line: If your search results aren't effected (and likley they are not), then what a little green PR bar says doesn't really matter.

Maybe if we go to Ask.com and put in "Why did Google change their page ranking," we could find out?

Something is really strange happening with Google lately.  Last night, I did a search for 'Bucks County Real Estate' and it returned 240,000 results back.  The number is very low.  It was never this low.  This morning, I searched for the same term and it returned almost 1.9M results back.

I think Google is playing with something and hope it doesn't change the SERPs in a negative way.

I just checked and my P2A site ViewAzRE.com is FINALLY up to a PR3 after a year of working on it, which is ironic as I've just about decided to reclaim my Move2Sedona.com domain name (which has sunk to a lowly PR1) and use it for my P2 site....so that 3 will probably go away.

I have also observed that it doesn't seem to have much relation to SERP though.

Oh well.

This is all very confusing, even to experts.

VanceRankster: Secret #8 - coming right up <LOL>

My PR dropped, but I still have page1 SERP at Google, and still top 10 in both my states at P2 (#1 for the cities I serve).

In the end, SERP is King for lead generation.  Best to focus on this and not PR.
