Need Suggestions for Professional Development Courses

I am ready to take a class to enhance my ability to provide my clients with outstanding service. What professional development course has had the most profound impact upon your service and success in the real estate business?

I am currently considering either the GRI or e-Pro class. Of course, I am open to other suggestions. I am anticipating your wonderful comments.

Even if you are technologically savvy, taking the e-PRO class will provide you with new ideas on how to do business in the constantly evolving electronic environment.  The best part comes after you finish the course.  The sharing of knowledge on the listserv of e-PROs is, as the commercial says, "priceless."  Lots of good information and suggestions.  In fact, I found Point2 thru being an e-PRO.

In our area, the GRI seems to be more well regarded, at least amongst brokers.  (If you are an e-pro that counts for 1 portion of the 6 portion GRI series.)  I found the e-pro certification course to be poorly written, not adhereing to standard testing practices, and offered no concrete suggestions to market via the internet.  If you can set up your own email signatures, and know the difference between plain text and html...pass on the e-pro unless you really want the designation by your name.   On the bright side it takes about 6 hours to complete the entire course.

As for the GRI, I'm only 1/2 through the course work...but the information so far hasn't been ground breaking.  I do want the designation on this one so I'm going to finish.

My best ideas I've gotten for marketing and servicing clients is Robert Middleton's action plan marketing - actionplan.com.  It isn't real estate specific but the ideas are easily transferable.

Good luck.  I'm guessing since you want to be better - you are already one of the best at servicing clients!

The GRI class is a good one and I truly enjoyed the networking that I did with other agents in my state.  Many good ideas were shared and the class did provide some great presentation ideas and also targeted ethics.

At the same time I did those classes last fall, I started the CRS classes for that certification.  I have to say I got more from one single CRS class than from all of the GRI - had an awesome instructor see www.coachjackie.com, she also teaches some of the GRI classes.  My plan to take more of those this year to finish that certification - it does have volume requirements and is a bit complicated to achieve, but well worth the effort.  The great part about CRS is the networking as well.

If you work with buyers, the ABR is a great class as well. I've also received great referrals from the ABR website over the last few years - if you've not checked into it see www.rebac.org.

Whichever you choose it is all good to get the education as an enhancement to your experience.  Ultimately any of them will help you provide better service and be a better agent overall. My rule of thumb is that if I take away 2-3 new ideas with each certification, it was well worth my investment.

Happy learning!
