Once again, we spent 30 minutes, and 3.00 worth of gas, trying to locate a property.
Does this happen all over the world or just where I live> Are you guilty of writing directions that are not accurate enough for anyone to find the property?
I hate this! I used to own a delivery company and I can usually find the property without the directions. But, when I see wrong directions on a listing I love it! Means I am more than likely the only one showing the property, since no one else can find it.
It happens in Central Ohio frequently. One of the best is when they say located off A St. between B Ave. and C. Ave. and B and C are 5 miles or more apart.
Or turn right off Oak St. Is that a right turn no matter whch direction you are traveling on Oak St.? HMMMM?
We usually get out a map, mapquest or other sources to verify directions if we aren't blindly familiar with an area before posting them anywhere
You must be driving a Hybrid if you got away with $3.00 of gas in a 30 minute drive. I can burn $3.00 of gas in 12 miles.
But yea, it's another version of the infamous "Invisible Home". I just hope that if I buy the Invisible Home for myself that I become invisible too or else taking showers could be a little embarassing.
:)
You're lucky....some of the properties around here have directions like:
-Drive until you see the Red Barn that's missing a door.
-Turn right at the second stump.
-Go past Mr. Johnson's Gray Mare.
-When you get to the fork in the road, take it.
-We're the house on the left with the dog on the porch.
Sometimes I can't get the tune of deliverance out of my head!
Michael,
Did I tell you I live in NE Georgia where everything is from the 4 Lane, turn at the white church? lol
Shee, I relate. Try working where all the streets have the same NAME:
Castilla Dr
Castilla Ct
Castilla Ln
Castilla St
Castilla Bay
ALL of our streets are like this. So one false suffix and you're dead. Also, our streets start, stop and start again (every other square mile outside city limits is owned by the Tribes) so you could go nuts finding the right block and you have to go around the long way each time.
I was recently sent to a property I listed with the following directions:
'Go until you see the rocking chair in the front'
Fortunately, now it's been surveyed and can be found . . .
Wouldn't it be cool to put weird directions in the mls? Something like: From your place of beginning, follow the North Star until you are totally West then turn right at the old gas station sign and proceed a little bit until you reach the house with the porch with the yellow dog. Proceed past the yellow dog till you reach the house with the mailbox in the milkcan. Wait a minute, I think that yellow dog is not longer on that porch so I will get back with you on that.
Or not.
LMAO at each of the posts above! What's crazy is how warped we all are for understanding the directions when we're out driving our clients to a showing!
But, they of course do not need us.
I pre-plan my routes before I show any properties. I write out my own directions from house to house from the map book that I have. I never trust anyone's directions. It is a lot of work but has payed off countless times.
Nothing makes you look worse than not being able to find a property while you are with a client.
Never put your reputation in the hands of agents who do not know how to give simple directions.
Lucia,
Like you I pre-plan my routes before I show properties, but it doesn't make the gas cost any less!
On yesterday's adventure, we were previewing a ome for one of our many out of town buyers. We even called the listing agent, who wasn't availabe. So we talked to another agent in the office who had seen the house before. He was very helpful (NOT)...by reading the very same directions from the MLS to us!
Truthfully, we couldn't find the home, my newly washed car got all dusty, and we burned $6.00 of gas!!!!!
Dang, I hate it when that happens! I don't know what to say other than shame on the agent who doesn't seem to want to sell their listing!
I think you should call and give them that feedback.
I prefer having a look myself first and cant think or Dare to see it for the first time with a Client!
I have a GPS and it is a marvelous tool. No agent should be without it.
What about an agent who tells you where the title company is you are closing at (he has closed there before) and you go there the day of closing after telling your sellers as well and it moved 2 years ago further West. I have a GPS but my sellers didn't. What was funny was I found it and while I was in the office waiting, the agent calls in wanting to know where they moved to. An absolute zoo, so I won't trust another agent to get me anywhere.
Gloria, I, too, have a GPS, but last night it had me go around the block instead of straight to the home and I got mixed up. I actually had to go back out of the community and read the MLS instructions....they worked!
Do you ever get embarrassed when you can't find a listing?
