I Feel Like Rodney Dangerfield--"I Don't Get No Respect!"

By: Sharron and Steve Lobman
Monday, June 04, 2007 6:48 PM

I have been pounding away on my computer keyboard. (In my pajamas, of course!) While my husband is waiting for me to ride with him to put the brochures up at our new listing.

I tell my husband, just a few more slight changes and my web site will be "done" for the day. After what seemed like a couple of minutes, I again assured him, "Yes, dear, I really do have to do something with my web page everyday. No, dear, I haven't finished yet!"

Then, as you know, it is on to my real estate "marketing" I must go!  And, indeed, my listings need their daily tweakings! In fact, I am so very very busy,  that I hardly seem to have the time to cook or to clean!

And, I assure him, every competent Point2er is aware that community participation is essential. It isn't just  fun and games you know. This is serious business that I am conducting here.

He still wants to know if all of this computer time is really necessary.

"But, web mastering ain't easy," I protest to him! Not to mention the flyers I produced for the new listing, and the e-mails that I wrote to our "pipeline" of online clients!

Then, I made my mistake. I laughed, no, I roared out loud at something funny someone said at REliberation.

That's when my mean old husband accused me of "wasting time!" I feel like Rodney Dangerfield--I don't get no respect!

As if my hubby's unappreciative words weren't enough, my PI dropped 75 points this weak. It is kind of like, the hurrier I go, the behinder I get!

Have any others of you been falsely accused of wasting time?

Anyway, misery loves company, and all of that! Let me know your "sob stories!"

Sharron, there is always so much to do. I get home at the end of the day whether I did real estate or the two days I work at my husbands office and there it is, my yet 3rd job, keeping up with everything at the house. Then the phone rings, more re. Then throw something in the oven, pan, washer, dryer, dishwasher, sink, cat bowl, refrigerator, mailbox. Or maybe just throw something. No, regaining my cool. Ok, what's for supper? What can thaw quick if no left overs. I know my husband works hard, and he does take out the trash without being asked, (but not without announcing it). I do alot of things I don't have time to announce each and every one. So we get through the meal and I don't have city council, why not spend some time on relib? Why not tweak the old website.

Does he ever read these posts. He would have a good time too and you guys could play "hookie" together.

Its all good.

Exagerating, I have told you a million times not to exagerate!

I wish my husband could find a pilots blog, he would have a good time.

I read Mikes Fang Shooey to him, he was laughing too, he thinks we are all hilarious. I share the funny stuff with him, he gets on the computer and reads jokes but they aren't as funny as our real life stuff here.

My husband calls my websites, marketing etc. my 'boyfriend' . . . "How's yer boyfriend doing, honey?"

He wouldn't dare bite the hand that feeds him all his guitars . . . real estate's been good to him and he's not even in it.

Actually, if you are diligent in what you're doing, spending time with your web site can pay off.

Case in point:  My domain is jacksonvillehomeinfo.net.

My main key word search term from my home page is "home for sale in jacksonville florida."

If you do a search on www.yahoo.com for these search terms, here's where my positions are for organic search results:

"home for sale in jacksonville florida" -  #1

"home for sale jacksonville florida" - #5

"home for sale in jacksonville fl" - #3

"jacksonville florida real estate"  - #3 AND #4 (different page)

"homes for sale in jacksonville florida" - #7

"jacksonville realtor" - #1 (This is a BIG one!)

There's more, but I just wanted to prove a point.

I'm getting about 2 solid buyer leads each day and have never been busier :))

So tell your husband to leave you alone, and one day he'll see the fruits of your labor! <grin>

I can conquer Yahoo, but Google's another story.  I'm working on that now using the little program below.

Here's a free tool to help you (and anyone else who want a good ranking): http://www.directorysubmitter.com

I have been in Real Estate 20 years, I am a Broker like Sharon said my husband of 39 years calls this laptop website my boyfriend. He says it was bad when I would lose track of time and was always late for special things like weddings, dinner's, family things. I was so late for my own surprise party by the time I got home everyone was already to go home they were drinking waiting for me to show up. I did relocation and had lots of it. I have toned it down not intentionaly (market) I have spent so much time on this website all winter my eyes hurt. I have a Professor from Rutgers as a customer and she gives me pointers, she told me she picked me from my bio. I was flattered, she is a Dr.can we be Dr's of Real Estate. I wonder. It takes a lot of time and I also love the blogs with the agents and I did not have time recently I had to go sell a house or two.

I have a large office in my house I use for watching my tivo while I do the wash.  My husband took early retirement and I say ok today I have to clean no website so I start moving and he joins in. I then stop and go on the computer. You have to work the room.......................

Extra pressure- cuz I am putting my house for sale in the next few days! Looks like my  new name is going to be "Mrs. Clean, Mrs. Clean!"

Ugh, now that I'm a real estate agent, I NEVER want to sell my house.  The pressure would be to high!  Manage to keep the kitchen clean and that's about it...and that's only because I'm OCD about kitchens.

I'm really good at multi-tasking (you learn that real quick in radio, I think Todd can attest--you learn how to set up your hour, pee, smoke and talk on the phone in between 2 minute songs!) so nothing goes undone around here for very long. I'm freakin' Superwoman.

Being on here and a few other online groups actually keeps me focused! I write for two publications not related to real estate and when I'm on here the most is when I'm writing for deadline. I switch back and forth between this, other 'this-es', my websites and my other writing and get it all done on time (except the websites which are a work in process).

That, take care of a household and a 66 lb dog, LOL AND a real estate office. Did I mention I was freakin' Superwoman?  :)

So anyone who would accuse me of wasting time, walk a mile in my flip flops and I'll be there to pick up the pieces, LOL. And I'm sure most of you are the same.

My hubby knows that. He just has one job. Plus a band. I guess that's one and a half . . . rofl

Sharron- Respectfully bows to Candice and promises to quit whining!

It is so interesting to learn that our partners could be so "off base" regarding our eneavors on the computer.

We all know that we are using every computer minute wisely!
