One Way to Make Your Site User Friendly

One quick way to make your site more user friendly is to utilize fonts that are most eye-appealing for the Internet format.

Have you ever wondered which font will work best on your site?

Did you know that there are guidelines for the use of font on the Internet? These are not "laws" but they are great suggestions for fonts that are the most eye-appealing.

Keep in mind, the web is not like a magazine. People aren't  flipping leisurely through the pages. of a magazine; Internet users are rushing from one site to another in an attempt to locate the information that they are seeking.

They are making snap decisions about their preference for the page. If they don't like it, they will just "flip to another channel!"

The best fonts are sans-serif. These are the fonts without the curly cues on the tails. They include: Arial, Century Gothic, Verdana, Tahoma, and Comic Sans MS.

If you choose to use serif fonts, with curly cues, choose from Times New Roman, Book Antiqua, Garamond and Georgia.

If you really want to use a font that stands out, try Playbill or Impact.

Too many font formats, colors, sizes and boldness levels can be very distracting for a quick once over of your site.

Agreed, too many colors are distracting.  For years the Chyron Corp. had Helvetica built into their graphics generators.  I still like it, for the

most recent tv ad I made I used Georgia and it looked just different enough to get noticed.

Absolutely! Also, I think it's a good idea to limit or eliminate music for our type of site.

Good post . . .

Candice, agreed about the music.  I also personally strongly dislike flash intros.  They take too long.

Yep, and they're a huge tune out factor for many.

Also, having 'intros' at all that someone has to click thru to get to the home page is not great. . . good info on that 'first impression' page with lots of text is better . . .
