Over budget remodel

We just moved into our newly remodeled home. It is gorgeous! Unfortunately, we went way over budget. With all of the price decreases around here, we could really have come out ahead financially if we had waited about a year to make our purchase. Now I am seeing some fabulous deals!

Sometimes you just go with the best choice available. The important thing is you LIKE it. If you stay there for a few years it will all even out. And just think of all your charm that will enrich the house. It will sell for a mint when you decide to leave.

Never regret!!  You did the best could with the information you had at the time.  Houses are like 401k stock, it is a long term thing, and in the meantime, you live in a home you love.... lucky you : )

Sharron, I agree with the comments so far, never good to regret, there will always be a better deal down the road, but if you sit around and wait all your life for what is the possible better deal you will never get anything done.

I think we need to justify our decisions sometimes, so as long as you guys are happy, it is a win win. Don't look back to woulda coulda shoulda.

The important thing is, you are in a home you love and it's YOU!  It's all about YOU, Sharron.  In accordance with the Prophecy.

In my experience, the term "over-budget remodel" is redundant :)

Take heart - it seems that every time I move, I pump thousands of dollars and many, many hours into fixing up the house - for someone else - and I always regret not just making the improvements in the first place, so I could enjoy them myself for a few years first.

Sharron, you didn't buy it to quick-turn, did you? So by the time you're ready to move again, prices will be back up and you'll have many enjoyable memories about the home to go with the profits!

Sharron, think on this .... the "what ifs".   What I mean is that you have a home that is exactly the way you want it and you bought if for some particular reason.  If there are more deals out there to be had, think about purchasing another one close to a major corporation and create "corporate housing" with that unit and get some good cash flow.  Never regret moves in the past but learn from any mistakes or lessons learned.  If you don't, then it is for nothing.

Just my two cents.

Thanks, for the encouraging words. I bought the house because this is where I want to live for a long, long time!

Mike--Why thank you! You are quite the southern gentleman.

If you had waited, it may not have been there for you.  You now have a place you love, enjoy it.  Make all that money back when you sell it later.

Sharron you answered my question, how long do you plan to live there?  Many, many years.  Then what are you thinking?  You needed a home, you found one that you loved with a make over.  Now if you really want to get depressed, think about what you would be paying (i.e. throwing away) in rent, with no tax deductions, at the mercy of a landlord while you are waiting for that super fabulous, stupendous deal that would never come.  You did good, enjoy your new home!

Sharron and Steve, I envy you for being able to create the perfect home for yourselves. Don't worry about a couple of dollars due to the housing market, enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Sharron since all of us want pictures, do you have before and after?  Maybe you could put up a page on your website with pictures and experiences of this remodel.  It may help others with theirs.  Plus we can see.

I am also waiting for pictures....I am still waiting for the kitchen remodeling fairy to drop a load on my house. While I love my home, when we moved in we could afford new appliances and cosmetic updates. Now, I want to knock out a kitchen wall, new countertops, new cabinet doors, a fancy schmancy new Toto in the master bath  and have the luxury of living with it for a while before we need to sell it (or DIE!!!)

Your situation makes me jealous. Just be quiet and ENJOY!
